Rider Wrestling Takes Down Princeton to Reclaim MAC-IVY Trophy
PRINCETON, NJ – The Rider wrestling team delivered a thrilling performance to edge out cross-town rival Princeton, 23-19, in an intense dual meet on Friday night in Jadwin Gym. The Broncs earned bonus points in four of their five victories to secure to MAC-IVY trophy back to Lawrenceville.
The dual meet started at 174 lbs where
Michael Wilson took on Xavier Giles. Facing a 6-1 deficit after the opening period, Wilson chose the bottom position to begin the second. Following an escape, the graduate student secured his first takedown of the match, cutting his deficit to 6-5. Wilson continued his second-period dominance with another takedown, gaining the 8-7 lead. The Bronc set the tone of the match after finding a way to put Giles in his back following his takedown to earn the fall and put Rider on the board.

Isaac Dean kept the momentum going for the Broncs as he took on Princeton's Kole Mulhauser. Dean set the tone early, striking first on the scoreboard. After a reversal in the second period, Dean had a 5-2 advantage going into the final period. Dean kept the pressure in the third period, earning two takedowns, including one in the final seconds to secure the 12-4 major decision to give the Broncs bonus points, moving the team score to 10-0.
The Tigers went on to take the next five bouts until a top-15 matchup at 149 lbs, where No. 15
Sammy Alvarez took on undefeated and No. 8 Ty Whalen. Alvarez struck first, giving him the early 3-0 lead. Whalen earned the escape to close out the first period. Whalen earned his second escape in the second period, cutting the deficit to 3-2. The difference in the match would be Alvarez's second takedown, extending his lead to 6-2. The Bronc began the final period in the bottom position, quickly earning an escape to seal an impressive 7-3 victory against the highest-ranked opponent he has faced this season.
Trailing the dual meet 19-13, No. 27 Colton Washlski came up big for the Broncs at 157 lbs earning a major decision over Jacob Mann to move the team score to 19-17.
The final bout of the night at 165 lbs featured No. 30
Enrique Munguia facing off against Zander Silva. Munguia started strong, scoring the only takedown of the first period. Beginning the second period in the bottom position, Munguia secured a reversal to extend his lead to 5-0. In the final period, he maintained his aggressive approach, securing another takedown before capping off the match with a dominant fall. Munguia's performance not only earned him an impressive individual victory but also sealed the dual for the Broncs.
Cleveland State Wrestling Sweeps MAC Doubleheader
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State swept its home conference doubleheader against Bloomsburg and Clarion on Friday evening. The Vikings opened the night with a 40-0 shutout of the Huskies and then picked up a 24-10 win over the Golden Eagles.
The match with Bloomsburg started at 165-pounds and saw the Green and White win the opening four matches by decision to lead 12-0. No. 31
Daniel Bucknavich bumped the advantage to 18-0 behind a fall in 2:45.

Ben Aranda technical fall at 125-pounds bumped the margin to 23-0. A
Jake Manley decision at 133-pounds and a forfeit at 141-pounds made it 32-0.
AJ Parish scored a huge 22-5 technical fall at 149-pounds and
Reese Stephen capped off the shutout with a 4-1 sudden victory at 157-pounds as the Green and White won 40-0.
The match with Clarion also started at 165-pounds and saw the Vikings win the first four matches by decision to 12-0. The visitors were then deducted a team point for unsportsmanlike.
Bucknavich secured a narrow 1-0 decision at 285-pounds as the lead moved to 15-{-1}. Clarion got on the board with a major decision at 125-pound to trail 15-3.
Molchak swung the momentum back for the home team with a fall in 1:19 as the advantage stood at 21-3.
The Golden Eagles took the next two matches by decision and major decision to pull within 21-10. However, Stephen capped off the night with a 4-1 victory as Cleveland State won 24-10.
The Vikings remain home to take on NIU for Youth Night on Friday, January 31 at 7 p.m.
Lock Haven Marks Return Home With 42-6 Win Over Kent State
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's wrestling team won nine of 10 bouts and the Bald Eagles picked up bonus points in six of those wins as they returned home and earned a lopsided 42-6 win over Kent State (1-10, 0-4 MAC) tonight (Friday, Jan. 25) in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action.
Lock Haven recorded three pins, a tech fall, and one major decision. The Bald Eagles added three wins by decision and picked up a victory by way of forfeit on the night.
The Bald Eagles rattled off nine straight wins after falling in the night's opening bout at 125 pounds.

Avery Bassett (174 lbs.) and No. 17
Gavin Hoffman (285 lbs.) all won by pin. No. 16
Anthony Noto won by tech fall at 133 pounds and No. 23
Colin Fegley won by major at 184. No. 17
Wyatt Henson won by forfeit at 141.
Stampoulos pinned Dominic Paterra in 2:42 and Bassett pinned Waylon Wehler in just 1:58. Hoffman closed the match with a pin in the night's final bout to highlight his Thomas Fieldhouse debut. Hoffman was up big when he earned the fall at the 4:54 mark.
Noto earned his 99
th career win at The Haven with a clinical 19-4 tech fall over Adan Benavidez. The two-time All-American will look to join Lock Haven's 100-win club on Sunday at George Mason.

With the win, Lock Haven extended its win streak to four matches and improved to 8-5 overall on the season. The Bald Eagles are 2-0 in MAC action and remained perfect at home on the season at 3-0. Tonight's victory over Kent State marked Lock Haven's first home dual since a Dec. 8, 2024 win over Wisconsin.
