SIU Edwardsville Trips Up Clarion, 26-9
CLARION, Pa. - SIUE wrestling swept the weekend with its second straight dual match victory Sunday, besting Clarion 26-9.

SIUE won five consecutive matches during the dual at one point, taking seven of the 10 matches contested in all.

Marcel Lopez led the Cougars with a third-period pin at 133 pounds over Mason Prinkey, SIUE also picked up major decision wins from Danny Martinez at 141 pounds and Eric Almarinez at 157 pounds.

Also picking up wins Sunday were Drew Davis (125), Hayden Whidden (149), Deron Pulliam (184), Nick Nosler (197).

After spending the weekend on the eastern side of the country, SIUE, 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference, next travels west to face California Baptist (Jan. 31) and Cal Poly (Feb. 2).
 
 
Ohio Defeats Edinboro 26-14 at Home
ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio Wrestling team defeated Edinboro 26-14 Sunday afternoon in The Convo after a five-bout sweep put Ohio back into the dual. 

"From 149 on up, I really, you really, really, liked." head coach Joel Greenlee said. "Those guys, went out there with some energy and scored some points. They tried to score early and often, and that's really what you want."

Redshirt sophomore Derek Raike collected Ohio's first win of the afternoon on a 20-7 major decision over Colin Roberts in the 149-pound class. 

With three team points in hand, redshirt sophomore Logan Cravatas stepped up to the mat with hopes to earn more for the Bobcats. He came back from a first-period deficit to pin Ryan Michaels at 5:18 to give the Bobcats six more points for the team total. The pin was the first of Cravatas' career. 

Redshirt sophomore Jack Lledo continued Ohio's streak with an 8-6 decision over Max Kirby in the 165-pound bout. The victory was Lledo's second dual win of the season. 

Ohio secured back-to-back technical falls in the 174-pound and 184-pound classes. Redshirt junior Garrett Thompson collected the first, a 15-0 at 3:29, over Brody Evans. Redshirt freshman Jeremy Olszko followed with a 20-3 at 4:12 over Jared McGill. 

The Bobcats' last victory of the afternoon came in the 285-pound bout. Redshirt senior Jordan Greer fended off Aden Roe for a 5-3 decision to round out the team victory. 

Ohio will be back in The Convo on January 25 to take on Northern Illinois. The dual is set for 5 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+. 
 
Central Michigan Completes Perfect MAC-Opening Weekend with 29-10 Win over Cleveland State
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan scored bonus points in five of its seven victories on Sunday in rolling to a 29-10 Mid-American Conference dual wrestling victory over Cleveland State at McGuirk Arena.

It was the Chippewas' third consecutive win as they improved to 4-5, 2-0 MAC. They opened the weekend with a 29-11 MAC win at home over Northern Illinois.

CMU takes a break next weekend from MAC competition when it goes to American in Washington, D.C. for the fourth annual Chippewa Challenge where it faces the Eagles, Campbell and UC Bakersfield.

The Chippewas won 15 of their 20 matches on the weekend in its victories over NIU and Cleveland State. All told, CMU scored bonus points in eight of those wins.

The Chippewas got technical fall wins on Sunday from Mason Shrader (149 pounds), Tyler Swiderski (165) and Alex Cramer (174). CMU's Vince Perez (133) and Adrien Cramer (184) posted wins by major decision.

The Chippewas' other victories, by decision, came from Johnny Lovett (157) and Luke Cochran (197).

In the lone matchup between ranked wrestlers, Cleveland State's Daniel Bucknavich took a 2-0 win from Bryan Caves at 285. Bucknavich is ranked No. 1 in the MAC, and 30th nationally by InterMat and 25th by FloWrestling. Caves is third in the MAC and 32nd in the InterMat national poll.
