MAC Diving Concludes Third and Final Day of UB Diving Invitational

Buffalo Sweeps Weekend with Kwak Winning Platform Diving to Close Out UB Diving Invite
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo diving team closed out their annual UB Diving Invite on Sunday morning, competing against Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Akron, and Duquesne in platform diving.

Following wins in the three-meter on Friday and the one-meter on Saturday, Marialis Kwak also won the platform diving finals, posting a score of 236.50. Kwak's score qualifies her for the NCAA Tower Zone Diving Championships, hosted in the spring. The senior has now won all 11 individual diving competitions this season.

Freshman Daphne Fox was the next Buffalo diver to place, finishing fourth with a final score of 204.65. Fox finished third in the preliminary round with a score of 213.30.

Kaylee Donovan (5th, 196.35) and Mallory Hanna (6th, 190.10) also earned spots in the finals, giving the Bulls four of the eight spots. Donovan took sixth in the preliminary round (183.25), as Hanna finished fifth (200.60).

The Bulls are back in action at home next Saturday, January 18th, at 11 a.m. in the Alumni Arena Natatorium against Akron. The team will celebrate senior day as it takes on the reigning MAC Champion Zips.
 
Ohio Diving Concludes 2025 UB Diving Invite
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ohio diving team returned to action this weekend at the 2025 UB Diving Invite hosted by Buffalo inside the Alumni Arena Natatorium. 
 
On Friday in the 3m-dive, sophomore Astrid Pichardo placed fifth with a score of 277.20. 
 
Earlier in the day in the prelims, Pichardo placed sixth with a score of 254.10, while sophomore Stephanie Balthaser placed 15th (223.45) and freshman Annie Haluch placed 16th with a score of 221.95. Freshman Camryn Quiggins placed 20th (209.25), while sophomore Savanna Bos placed 22nd (200.75), and senior Sophie Cooper placed 24th with a score of 194.75. 
 
On Saturday, in the 1-meter dive, Pichardo placed 10th in the prelims with a score of 225.80. Meanwhile, Quiggins (211.85) placed 17th, Balthaser (206.40) placed 18th, and Cooper (203.10) finished 19th. Bos finished the day in 21st with a score of 198.85, with Haluch in 31st with a score of 155.85. 
 
The dive team wrapped up the weekend on Sunday with the platform, where Bos placed eighth overall in the platform dive, recording a score of 154.60. 
 
Up next, the entire Ohio swim and dive team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, when Ohio heads to Huntington, W. Va., to take on Marshall. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. ET. 
 
Eastern Michigan’s Lupa Punches Ticket to NCAA Zone C Diving Championship in Platform
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Eastern Michigan University diving freshman Megan Lupa qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the platform dive with a score of 229.90 points as the Eagles' divers competed at the three-day UB Diving Invitational, hosted by the University at Buffalo, at the Dorsi Raynolds Pool, Friday-Sunday, Jan. 10-12.  
 
Lupa is the fourth EMU diver to qualify for the meet this season. She will join her teammates Malia Maire (one-meter), Rebekah Knapp (one-meter and three-meter), and Ciara Wheeler (one-meter) at the event hosted by Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio, March 10-12.
 
Maire, Lupa, and Taityn Speier made the top-12 finals cut. Maire led the way placing third with 268.95 points, followed by Lupa in fifth (254.35) and Speier in 12th (238.35). Other notables from the preliminary round included Adley Zamore's personal-best outing as she placed 14th, scoring 224.50.
 
Maire led the Eagles again in the finals and improved her prelim score by 8.95, placing fourth with a total of 277.90. Lupa again finished two spots behind in sixth, posting a personal-best 272.65 after increasing her score by 18.3 points from the prelims. Speier improved three spots from the prelims to the finals, placing ninth in the final round, scoring 232.60.
 
Day two consisted of the one-meter dive and team diving. Lupa, Maire, and Aisling Gutierrez each qualified for the one-meter finals via a top-12 finish in the preliminary round. Lupa set a personal best in the prelims, posting a score of 260.20, the highest score of any Eagle in the event.
 
In the finals, Lupa placed seventh (238.05), Gutierrez slotted 10th (222.70), and Maire followed in 11th (213.95).
 
The team diving event featured 11 dives from four different heights (one-meter, three-meter, five-meter, and 10-meter). The Eastern A team placed fourth out of six teams in the event, scoring 218.25.
 
Lupa excelled again in the platform dive on the third and final day. The freshman placed first in the prelims, scoring 224.00. She would fall to second place in the finals despite increasing her score by nearly six points to 229.90.
 
Lupa's score in the final round punched her ticket to the 2025 NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the platform dive. She will join teammates Maire, Knapp, and Wheeler at the competition. Maire previously qualified in the one-meter with a score of 270.45 against Oakland, on Nov. 21, while Knapp qualified in the three-meter after posting a score of 317.25, against Cleveland State, on Oct. 18, and in the one-meter with a 267.00 performance versus Oakland, Nov. 21. Wheeler punched her ticket via a 267.38 outing in the one-meter against Indiana State, Nov. 9.
 
Akron Zips Conclude Action at the Buffalo Diving Invitational on Sunday
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Akron Diving team concluded action at the Buffalo Diving Invitational with a third-place finish in the platform diving event.

Laurel Smith finished third with a score of 214.85 while Sophia Stamm finished seventh with a score of 174.80.

Smith finished second in the prelim round with a score of 218.80 while Stamm scored 165.75.

The Zips return to Buffalo for a dual meet on January 18 for an 11 a.m. start.
