Lock Haven Wrestling Hits the Mat at F&M Open
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's wrestling team returned to action today (Friday, Jan. 10) and the Bald Eagles turned in a strong effort at the David H. Lehman '68 Open, hosted by Franklin & Marshall.
Over 20 Bald Eagles hit the mats today, competing attached and unattached.
Leading the way for The Haven was
Nick Stampoulos at 157.
Stampoulos, the third seed, went 5-1 on the day. Stampoulos majored in Bucknell's Riley Bower before posting an 8-3 decision over Caden Bellis.
In the third-place bout, Stampoulos defeated Trae McDaniel 9-3.
At 285, No.17
Gavin Hoffman went 5-2 with a tech, pin, and major.
Wrestling unattached,
Gable Strickland finished 4-2 with two techs and a major in the 133-pound bracket.
Ousamane Duncanson (165) went 4-2 with a pin and one tech fall.
Hunter Gould,
Connor Eck, and
Eric Alderfer all finished 3-2. Alderfer had two victories by pin.
Cleveland State Wrestling with Two Placers at F&M Open
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State finished the F&M Open on Friday afternoon with two placers and had 35 overall victories.
Ben Aranda claimed the sixth spot at 125 pounds after putting up a 5-1 record including one major decision.
Daniel Bucknavich was the runner-up at 285 pounds after putting up a 5-1 record including three falls and one major decision.
The Vikings will wrestle in consecutive days starting with a home match against George Mason on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. followed by a road contest at CMU at 2 p.m.
Buffalo Bulls Compete at Frank Lehman F&M Open
LANCASTER, PA – It was a solid showing for the University at Buffalo wrestling team at the Frank Lehman F&M Open on Friday. The Bulls placed two on the podium and two others had five wins on the day.
Hunter Shaut placed sixth at 165 pounds. The graduate student went 5-2 on the day.
At 174,
Rafael Knapp also placed sixth after going 3-2 on the day.
Kaleb Burgess (157) and
Sam Ewing (149) didn't place, but both went 5-1 on the day and were forced to stop after reaching their six-match limit.
After dropping his first bout, Burgess went on a tear, winning his next three matches with first-period pins. He added an 11-2 major decision and a 5-0 decision to cap his day.
Ewing was equally impressive, winning three by tech fall and two by major decision.
The Bulls are back in action at Michigan State next Sunday.
Kent State's Schaffer Places 4th, Leads Flashes at F&M Open
Lancaster, PA- Blake Schaffer led the Flashes with a 4th finish at the Franklin and Marshall Open.
The Junior opened his tournament with a 15-0 technical fall over Harvard's Mason Pelligri. Schaffer then defeated Clarion's Connor Jacobs 10-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Schaffer wrestled Army West Point's Reid Schroeder. Schaffer won by major decision 19-7 to advance to the semis. In the semifinals, Schaffer was pinned by Lehigh's JT Davis in :39. In the third place match, Schaffer wrestled Joe Curtis of Columbia and was pinned in 2:33
The Flashes will be back in action on January 17 against SIUE. The match will be in the MAC Center and will start at 7 PM.
Ohio Wrestling Wraps Up Day One of NWCA National Duals
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The Ohio wrestling team kicked off day one of the 2025 NWCA National Duals with competition against Pennsylvania, Northern Iowa, and Central Michigan. Ohio faced Pennsylvania in the Division I preliminary round in the morning and Northern Iowa in the Division I bracket in the afternoon. Its final dual was against Central Michigan in the consolation bracket.
In the prelims, Ohio fell to Pennsylvania 38-9. Redshirt sophomore
Austin Starr picked up the win over Jackson Zimmerman. Redshirt senior
Jordan Greer collected his third fall of the season against John Pardo in the 285-pound class. Greer also picked up a win in Ohio's 34-3 loss to Central Michigan to end the day 2-1.

Garrett Thompson collected the lone win in Ohio's 48-3 loss to Northern Iowa. He defeated Jared Simma on a 5-3 decision in the 174-pound bout.
George Mason’s DuVall Leads the Patriots at the NWCA National Duals
FAIRFAX - The George Mason wrestling team competed against top mid-major schools in the country Cal Poly, SIUE, and Wyoming on the first day at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Multi-Division Dual Meet Championships held at the UNI-Dome today in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Patriots, seeded No. 6, dropped the first-round match to Cal Poly before defeating SIUE for the second time this season in the consolation round. Wyoming won 30-12 in the Patriots’ final match today.
Malachi DuVall won all three matches today to improve to 11-3 overall, earning a decision and two falls. DuVall had a fall against Cal Poly's Jake Honey and Wyoming's Riley Davis.
Tyler Kocak was also undefeated today, winning two matches by decision.

In the consolation round, the Patriots faced SIUE for the second time this season, winning for a second time against the Cougars. The Patriots won six matches.

Wyoming won seven of the 10 duals against the Patriots en route to a 30-12 decision.
The event, which features more than 100 collegiate teams across six divisions, includes 14 Division I men's programs, including multiple teams ranked in the NWCA's top 25 poll as well as a trio of Big 12 rivals.
Central Michigan Goes 1-1on Opening Day at National Duals
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Central Michigan wrestling team split its two dual meets on Friday on the opening day of the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals at the UNI Dome on the campus of Northern Iowa.
The Chippewas opened with a 20-13 loss to No. 14 South Dakota State and then bounced back on Friday night with a 34-3 victory over Mid-American Conference foe Ohio.
The CMU-Wyoming loser will wrestle in the seventh-place meet.
The fifth- and seventh-place duals are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
South Dakota State, Wyoming and Ohio are ranked in the NWCA Mid-Major Top 20. SDSU is third, Wyoming is eighth, and Ohio is 13
th. The Chippewas are among others receiving votes in the poll.

Alex Cramer (174) each finished 2-0 on Friday.
Cramer, who entered the tournament ranked 21
st nationally by FloWrestling, defeated a pair of top-10 wrestlers. He posted a 4-1 win over No. 7 Cade DeVos of South Dakota State and then defeated No. 9 Garrett Thompson of Ohio, 2-0.
It was Cramer's second win this season over Thompson, a redshirt junior. He posted a 4-1 sudden-victory win over Thompson at the season-opening Michigan State Open. Cramer is ranked No. 1 in the MAC, while Thompson is second.
Cramer lost on a pin to DeVos in the 2023 NCAA Championships. Both Cramer and DeVos are graduate students.
Spidle, who is ranked 26
th, upset No. 20 Derrick Cardinal of South Dakota State, 10-3, and then posted a 16-1 technical fall victory over TJ England of Ohio.
Spidle, who placed fifth at the Midlands Championships, has won seven of his last nine bouts after a 3-5 start to the season.
Swiderski defeated Marcus Espinoza-Owens of South Dakota State, 7-3, and then posted a 12-4 major decision win over Robert Gaylord of Ohio.
Swiderski, a redshirt junior, has won seven of his eight matches since returning from injury.
The Chippewas' other victory against South Dakota State came at 285, where
Bryan Caves rolled to a 14-1 major over 26
th-ranked Luke Rasmussen.
The Chippewas dominated Ohio, winning nine of the 10 matches. CMU got bonus-point wins from Spidle,
