Buffalo’s Dorsett Climbs Program Ranks as Bulls Sweep Diving Events Again
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo diving team hosted day two of the annual UB Diving Invite on Saturday, with Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Akron, and Duquesne traveling to compete against the Bulls. Buffalo swept both one-meter and team diving, winning all three competitions this weekend so far.

ONE-METER DIVING
After winning the three-meter diving event with a school record score on FridayMarialis Kwak doubled back on Saturday to win the one-meter finals with a score of 286.50. The senior has now won all ten individual diving competitions she's competed in this season.

Presley Dorsett finished second in the finals with a score of 269.70, and Sophie Meuwissen finished fifth with a score of 255.95. Mallory Hanna (6th, 253.70), Daphne Fox (9th, 235.50), and Kaylee Donovan (9th, 229.45) all finished inside the top 10 too.  

Kwak took first place in the preliminary round too with a score of 302.05. Dorsett trailed to finish second with a score of 299.60.

Dorsett's preliminary round score of 299.60 is a new personal record that ranks fifth all-time in program history. Dorsett's previous record of 287.55 ranked seventh. The senior jumped Louise Bradley (291.07, 2021) and Patricia Arceri (292.13, 2022) in the program ranks.

Hanna finished fifth with a score of 257.85, as Meuwissen (7th, 254.95) and Fox (9th, 237.45) also placed inside the top ten in the preliminary round. Donovan took 12th with a score of 225.10 to put six Buffalo divers in the finals, taking half of the 12 final spots. Maggie Meyers missed the cut by a slim margin, finishing 14th with a score of 222.0.

TEAM DIVING
The Bulls won the team diving event with a team of Kwak, Meuwissen, and Donovan finishing first with a score of 255.80. The Bulls also had a team of Meyers, Dorsett, and Hanna compete, taking third with a score of 233.95 to give Buffalo two of three podium spots.

The UB Diving Invite concludes on Sunday at 10:30 am with platform diving.

With the dive team at home, the Bulls' swimmers headed to Duquesne to compete against the Dukes in a head-to-head, swimming-only meet. All information regarding that meeting can be found here.

Akron Zips Conclude Second Day of the Buffalo Diving Invitational
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Two Zips finished in the top four in the 1-meter diving event on the second day of the Buffalo Diving Invitational.

In the 1-meter prelims, Elizabeth Noble led the way with a score of 260.20 for third. Laurel Smith placed sixth with a score of 256.10 while Sophia Stamm finished the prelims with a score of 211.90.

In the 1-meter final, Noble led the Zips with a third-place finish with a score of 263.85 while Smith finished fourth with a score of 261.60.

Akron concludes action in the Buffalo Diving Invitational tomorrow, January 12 with platform diving.
 
Miami Swim & Dive Take Down Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio— The Miami University women's swimming and diving team traveled to the University of Toledo to take on the Rockets Saturday. The RedHawks went on to defeat Toledo 188-107.
How it Happened: 
  • The meet started off with the women's 400-yard medley, where the women's A team placed first, The women's B team came in second, and the women's C team finished third. Madeline PadavicNatalie GilsonErin Szczupakiewicz, and Kaylin Herbet posted a combined time of 3:46.80 for the A team. Ella ZiegertEmma SchuelerMcKenzie Reid and Julia Waechter turned in a combined time of 3:50.39 for the B team. Angelina CakulsZofia Janaszek-SeydlitzMakayla Hoehn and Jenna Halliday recorded a combined time of 3:55.24 for the C team. 
  • Casey Stephens finished first in the women's 1000-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 10:40.49. Audrey Conley came in second posting a time of 10:47.36.
  • Up next was the women's 200-yard freestyle, where Katheryn Antonowich placed second, earning a time of 1:56.19. Szczupakiewicz came in third, recording a time of 1:57.66 .
  • Chrisna Bezuidenhout came in first in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.55. Halliday placed third, turning in a time of 57.94.
  • In the women's 100-yard breaststroke, Herbet came in first, clocking a time of 1:04.08. Piper Prince finished in second with a time of 1:07.40.
  • The women's 200-yard butterfly was next, where Mady Bachmeier finished first, putting up a time of 2:06.84. Emily Rinker was right behind her in second at 2:08.70, and Hoehn finished third with a mark of 2:11.83.
  • Padavic placed first in the women's 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 24.01. Waechter finished second, turning in a time of 24.22.
  • Next was the women's 100-yard freestyle, where Gilson placed first, recording a time of 52.37. Taylor Connors came in second with a time of 52.46.
  • Ziegert earned herself a first-place finish in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.41. Cakuls placed second, recording a time of 2:07.09.
  • The women's 500-yard freestyle was next, where Antonowich placed second at 5:11.41. Lauren Gualtieri finished third with a time of 5:13.68.
  • Szczupakiewicz placed second in the women's 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 57.32. Ziegert was third, earning a time of 58.54.
  • For diving events, Mia Meinhardt came in first place for the one-meter dive, turning in a score of 252.60. Vivian Niekamp placed second with a score of 243.30 and Sydney Rice came in third posting a score of 243.08.
  • Meinhardt came in first in the three-meter dive, putting up a score of 267.00. Rice placed third with a score of 244.20.
UP NEXT: The Miami men and women will return to the pool against Xavier University on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. in Oxford in the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center for Senior Recognition day.
