OXFORD, Ohio— Miami outfielder Zach MacDonald was selected in the 15th round of the 2024 MLB Draft today by the Detroit Tigers. MacDonald, a Portage, Mich. native, was the 446th overall pick.
MacDonald started in all 54 of Miami's games and closed out the season with career-highs in batting average (.337), fielding percentage (.994), hits (70), home runs (20), on-base percentage (.462), OPS (1.145), RBI (62), runs scored (65), slugging percentage (.683) and stolen bases (15). His 20 home runs this season are tied for second in program history. He also stands second all-time in career (43) home runs for Miami. MacDonald also holds the seventh most runs (151) in Miami history.
MacDonald led the MAC in slugging percentage this season, while ranking second in home runs and OPS. He also finished third in runs scored, third in triples, fifth in runs batted in, sixth in stolen bases and sixth in on-base percentage.
This season, MacDonald was named to the ABCA/Rawlings East All-Region First Team. He also earned All-MAC First Team honors and was recognized on the MAC All-Defensive Team. He is the first RedHawk to receive All-Region honors since 2012.
