Mikonowicz, Gomez Named Scholar Athletes of the Week

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events):
Gomez was perfect form in the game at Western Michigan as he was 1-of-1 in PATs and 1-of-1 in field goal tries, including a 32-yard conversion, for four points. Gomez finished the regular season with 87 points, the ninth-highest total in program history, for an average of 73 points per game, both of which rank second in the MAC. He kicked 20 field goals on the year to become only the second EMU player to reach 20 in a single season behind the 21 makes by Andrew Wellock in 2004. Additionally, his became just the fifth player to attempt 100 PATs in a career with his 95 conversions ranking him fourth all-time at Eastern.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Fifth-year senior Sammi Mikonowicz was named to the Navy Thanksgiving Classic’s all-tournament team after averaging 18.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg this weekend. Mikonowicz scored a career-high 27 points vs. Navy on Saturday by making 10-of-12 shots from the field. She also added 10 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season and 15th of her career.  Mikonowicz also scored 10 points vs. No. 10 Maryland on Sunday.
