Case, Salopek Named Scholar Athletes of the Week

The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): Matt Salopek made a game-high 13 tackles to help Miami Football post its sixth straight win Tuesday, a 20-9 triumph over Northern Illinois. Salopek moved up two spots into fifth place in program history for career tackles with 491, and is now just one tackle shy of becoming the first RedHawk ever to have four 100-tackle seasons.

Week’s Achievements (detailed description of week’s events): 
Logan Case was named Tournament MVP for the second consecutive season as she helped Western Michigan repeat as Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament champions. For the tournament, she totaled 153 assists (12.75/set) and recorded double-doubles in the semifinals against top-seeded Bowling Green (57 assists, 15 digs) and in the championship match against No. 3 seed Ball State (43 assists, 13 digs). In Sunday’s championship match, she became the MAC’s all-time leader in career assists, surpassing former Ball State setter Emily Sallee’s old record of 6,408.
