Buffalo – Burgess Takes First Place to Highlight UB’s Day at Big Red Invitational
ITHACA, NY – Kaleb Burgess won the 157 bracket at the Big Red Invitational on Sunday afternoon. In all, 19 Bulls competed at the annual event hosted by Cornell.
Burgess steamrolled through his bracket, winning three of his four matches by pin. He opened by pinning Binghamton's Marco Albanese early in the second period. He then pinned Brown's Nicholas Romero in the first period in the quarterfinals. After earning a decision over teammate
Brady Unger in the semifinals, Burgess needed only 40 seconds to pin Cornell's Nathan Wade in the finals.
After dropping his opening match,
Lonnell Owens-Pabon bounced back in a big way, winning three straight matches to finish second. He needed only 1:19 to pin Binghamton's Andrew Bailey in the second round. Then he won an 8-1 decision over Brown's Thomas Sandoval, followed by another first-period pin over Binghamton's Quinn Funk.
At 165,
Hunter Shaut opened with an 11-1 major decision over Roberto Padilla of Binghamton. He then pinned Brown's Kaeden Berger late in the first period en route to a third-place finish.
Freshman
Jack MacDonald won three of his five matches to place third at 285.
Five other Bulls won two matches on the day, including

Robbie Unruh (285).
The Bulls will be back in action on December 6 when they wrestle at American and George Mason.
Central Michigan – Amaker First, CMU Third at Keystone Classic
PHILADELPHIA –Chandler Amaker won the 165-pound weight class to lead the Central Michigan wrestling team to a third-place finish on Sunday in the Keystone Classic at the Palestra Arena at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Chippewas finished with 137 points. Lock Haven, which, like CMU, is a member of the Mid-American Conference, won the tournament with 149.5. Virginia Tech, which is ranked seventh nationally, was second with 139.5.
Eight teams comprised the field.
Amaker, a redshirt junior, went 3-0 on the day. He opened with a 6-0 win over Kylan Montgomery of Virginia Tech and then posted a 5-2 sudden victory over Lock Haven's Caden Dobbins in the semifinals. He topped Jackson Spires of Virginia Tech in the title match.
Amaker began the season as a backup to
Tyler Swiderski, injured at the season-opening Michigan State Open. Dobbins placed fourth last season at the MAC Championships and is ranked fourth in the MAC this season. Amaker improved to 7-3 on the season.
Three other Chippewas –
Johnny Lovett (157),
Adrien Cramer (184), and
Bryan Caves (285) – reached the championship match in their respective weight classes.
Lovett dropped a 10-8 decision to Jude Swisher of Penn in his title match and finished 3-1 on the day; Cramer (3-1) fell 4-1 in sudden victory to Colin Fegley of Lock Haven in his championship match; and Caves (2-1) lost on a 19-4 technical fall to Virginia Tech's Hunter Catka in the final.
Twelve of the 14 Chippewas who competed in the tournament placed. CMU's
Alex Cramer, the No. 1 seed at 174, did not wrestle.
CMU got third-place finishes from

Luke Cochran (197); fourths from
Andrew Austin (133) and
Cameron Wood (197); a fifth from
Kaden Chinavare (125); and eighths from

The Chippewas return to the mat on Friday, Dec. 6, with a dual meet at No. 22 Oklahoma and then wrestle at No. 20 Little Rock on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Clarion – Wrestling Wraps Day at Big Red Invitational
ITHACA, N.Y. --- Wesley Barnes won the 165-pound "B" section, and a handful of other Golden Eagle wrestlers took second place in their respective brackets as the Golden Eagles competed at the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cornell on Sunday.
Barnes went 5-0 in his matches at 165 pounds, highlighting the day at Cornell's storied Barton Hall. He bookended his day with two wins by fall, starting with a second-period win over Sacred Heart's David Rozenblum and closing with a fall over the Pioneers' Anthony Mann in the first period. Barnes also won a pair of close matches on Sunday, beating Cornell's Kaleb Williams by a 4-1 decision in sudden victory and later beating Sacred Heart's Calvin Pineda by a 3-2 decision.
Though Barnes was the only Golden Eagle to win his weight class, others earned runner-up status on Sunday:
- Kyle Schickel took second place in the 149 "A" bracket with a 2-1 record, with his only loss coming to nationally-ranked Ethan Fernandez of Cornell. He beat Buffalo's Sam Ewing by a major decision, coming up just shy of a technical fall with a 20-9 score, and later outlasted Brown's Samuel McMonagle for a 5-2 decision.
- In the 133-pound "B" bracket, Scott Johnson returned to action for the Golden Eagles to place second in the field with a 4-1 record. Johnson stacked bonus points in his pool, starting with a 13-4 major decision over Buffalo's Dillon Arrick. He followed with a 17-1 technical fall over the Bulls' Troy Guerra and then claimed a 9-6 decision against Cornell's Ethan Qureshi. That led to bracket competition, where Johnson beat Sacred Heart's Anthony Samuels by fall in the second period. Qureshi got the better of him in the championship match, earning a fall in the second period.
- In the 149 "B" bracket, both Judah Aybar and Chandler Ho showed well, taking second and third place, respectively. Aybar went 3-1 overall, starting with a 14-3 major decision over Sacred Heart's Daniel Delusant and a first-period fall against Buffalo's Cael Raines. He also recorded a third-period fall against Cornell's Macario Calavitta. His only loss of the day came to Binghamton's Caleb Sweet, who beat him by a 4-2 decision. Ho, meanwhile, beat Raines in sudden victory 9-6 and took a major against Calavitta. Sweet also got the better of him, winning by fall at 4:45.
- Gavin Wilmoth placed second in the 174-pound "B" bracket, going 2-1 on the day. He beat a pair of wrestlers from Sacred Heart, defeating Nicolas Eboli by an 11-2 major decision and Calum Price by an 18-3 technical fall.
- Ethan Wiant took second place in the 197 "B" bracket, winning three matches in his return to action. He defeated teammate Connor Jacobsby's 7-2 decision early on in the day and then claimed a 4-2 decision over Sacred Heart's Kevin Taylor and a 17-4 major decision against Brown's Alex Hamrick.
- Lucas Thomas placed second in the 285 "B" bracket, going 4-1 with three falls. He started with a first-period fall over Buffalo's Will Hotaling and also pinned Brown's Braden Ewing and Buffalo's Jack MacDonald. In between, Thomas took an 11-6 decision over Buffalo's Robert Unruh.
Bloomsburg –Wrestling Finishes Ninth at 2024 Black Knight Invite
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Bloomsburg wrestling team picked up four wins at the 2024 Black Knight Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Junior
William Morrow led the way for the Huskies at 157 pounds. Morrow dropped his first match of the day, 4-2, in a tight decision to Jack Conley of Michigan State. After receiving a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket, Morrow picked up a 4-1 decision over Tyler Barrett of Columbia to advance in the bracket. Morrow kept his day alive with a 12-3 major decision over Jack Valentin of LIU. Jordan Brown of Binghamton held a slight 3-2 lead over Morrow to the start of the third period. Brown earned an escape and quick takedown early in the final round to take a 7-2 lead. Morrow got an escape to cut the lead to 7-3 with just over a minute to go in regulation. With 28 seconds to go, Morrow got a takedown to cut the lead to 7-6 but gave up the quick escape to try and score more points as Brown pushed his lead to 8-6. Brown held out in the final 20 seconds for the win and got the riding time point for the 9-6 decision.
David Tuttle went 1-2 on the day for the Huskies at 184 pounds. After a fall in the first round to Lucas Daly of Michigan State, Tuttle rebounded for a hard-fought 5-1 decision over Eidson Flores of Gardner Webb to keep his day alive. Tuttle fell to Andrew Christie of the Army, 17-0, in his final match.
Mason Rebuck got a win in the consolation bracket to go 1-2 on the day in the 197-pound bracket. After a fall in the first round to Lucas Cochran of Penn State, Rebuck earned an 8-0 major decision over Ike Schmidt of Columbia to move on in the consolation bracket. Josh McCutchen of Gardner-Webb earned a 13-0 major decision over Rebuck in the second round of the consolation bracket to end Rebuck's day.
The Huskies will get back on the mat when they travel to Lock Haven on December 1 for the Mat Town Open following Thanksgiving break.
Gorge Mason – Wrestling Defeats SIUE to Remain Undefeated
Fairfax, Va.— The George Mason wrestling team remains unbeaten after defeating SIUE, 32-8, at First Community Arena this afternoon.
The Patriots improve to 6-0 overall and remain atop the MAC East standings with a 4-0 record. It's George Mason's best start since 2022-23, when the team won eight straight to open the season. The Cougars dropped to 1-2 overall 0-1 in the MAC. George Mason has won four straight matches against the Cougars.
The match featured two of the MAC conference's top-5 teams. The Patriots ranked third, won eight of the 10 matches against the fifth-ranked Cougars.
Redshirt sophomore #23
Evan Maag earned his third fall this season with a pin at 1:52 against Bradley Gillum. Maag is 4-0 in the MAC, all bonus point wins.
Two George Mason wrestlers earned wins by major decisions, #26
DJ McGee (157) and freshman
James Blackman (285). McGee improves to 6-1, 3-1 in the MAC. Blackman is 5-2 overall, 3-0 in the conference.
Ben Monn (125) earned a win in a sudden victory against Davian Guanajuato to improve to 8-1.
Kaden Cassidy remains unbeaten with a 4-0 record after an 8-3 decision, all against MAC opponents.

Malachi DuVall edged Deron Pulliam (SIUE), 1-0, to remain unbeaten (6-0, 4-0) this season. Charlie Bunting won his match over Marcel Lopez (SIUE), 4-1, in the 133 weight class.
The Patriots return home to host MAC Buffalo on Dec. 6 at 5 pm. The dual will be held at a new, unique venue on campus, the Johnson Center.
Lock Haven - Men’s Wrestling soars to PRTC Keystone Classic title; Four Bald Eagles claim individual titles
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Lock Haven men's wrestling team competed at the PRTC Keystone Classic today (Nov. 24).
Anthony Noto,
Avery Bassett,
Colin Fegley, and
Tucker Hogan claimed individual titles.
Lock Haven finished first in the team standings with 149.5 points, edging out No. 5 Virginia Tech and defending Mid-American Conference (MAC) Champions, Central Michigan.
No. 16
Anthony Noto went a perfect 4-0 for the 133-pound title. Noto, a returning All-American, earned an 8-5 decision victory over No. 29 Ryan Miller in the semifinals. Noto took first after a 4-2 decision.
Avery Bassett claimed top honors in the 174-pound bracket. Bassett made his way to the finals after a victory by fall in 1:30 over Drexel's Jack Janda. The final bout featured two Lock Haven wrestlers Bassett and
Tyler Stoltzfus. Bassett placed first after an 11-2 major decision.
Stoltzfus finished second with a 2-1 record on the day with a pin and one tech fall.
No. 28
Colin Fegley was the third Bald Eagle to claim gold after going 3-0. Fegley went to overtime in the final bout against Central Michigan's Adrien Cramer where he scored the winning takedown for the 4-1 victory.
Freshman
Tucker Hogan finished with two tech falls and soared to the 197-pound title. Hogan opened up the day with a 15-0 tech fall in 1:12 over Harvard's Mason Pellegri before posting a 15-4 major decision in the semifinals. In the finals, Hogan won by tech fall, 16-1, in 5:16.
Sean Logue,
Lucas Kapusta, and No. 33
Nick Stampoulos all finished fourth at 125, 149, and 157, respectively.
Logue went 3-2 with a pin. Kapusta went 3-2 with a tech fall and a pin.
Stampoulos went 3-2 and recorded one tech fall. Stampoulos dropped the third-place bout by a 4-0 decision.
Caden Dobbins placed fifth at 165. The Bloomsburg transfer downed Virginia Tech's Kylan Montgomery 6-3 in the fifth-place match.
DaShawn Farber and
James Lledo placed sixth at 149 and 184, respectively. Lledo finished with two pins on the day.
Conner Heckman and
Ethan Miller placed eighth at 141 and 285.
