Offensive Player of the Week
Lauryn Hovey, Opposite Hitter, Bowling Green
Lauryn Hovey led the Falcon attack on the way to the MAC Regular Season title, topping the BGSU stat sheet in kills in both matches. Hovey began the weekend with 16 kills in just three sets while maintaining a .387 hitting percentage. She added 12 digs for a double-double in the contest. Hovey followed it up with 23 kills on Saturday over five sets while hitting .405. For the weekend, Hovey averaged an impressive 4.88 kills per set while hitting .397 on 73 attacks.
Defensive Player of the Week
Aayinde Smith, Middle, Ball State
Graduate middle Aayinde Smith turned in a dominating effort at the net, tallying 23 blocks (4 solo and 19 assists) over 11 sets for a league-best 2.09 blocks-per-set average last week. She started with eight total blocks in the win over Miami (Nov. 12), with her eighth and final block not only ending the match by also raising her collegiate total to 400. She followed with six total blocks in Friday’s sweep of Western Michigan, helping limit the Broncos to a season-low .117 attack percentage in the match. She added nine more blocks in Saturday’s five-set thriller versus the Broncos. In addition, she registered 17 total kills and hit .333 (17-5-36) over the three matches.
Setter of the Week
Allie Korba, Central Michigan
Central Michigan secured their No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament after two wins over Akron, led by setter Allie Korba. Korba recorded 105 assists over the nine sets, good for 11.67/set. The Chippewas hit .278 over the two games much aided by Korba. On the service line, she recorded three aces as well adding five block assists and 16 digs on defense.
