Akron Tabbed as 2024-25 MAC Swimming & Diving Preseason Poll Favorite

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In a poll with the Mid-American Conference’s eight head coaches, the Akron women’s swimming & diving team was picked to take home this year’s 2024-25 MAC Championship crown.

The Zips earned the top spot with 49 team points and seven of the eight first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their team.

Ohio is the runner-up in this year’s poll, with 42 team points and the final first-place vote, followed by Miami in third place with 37 team points.

Akron was ranked No.25 in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) Preseason Poll and the only team from the MAC to be ranked or receive votes. The Zips have 10 MAC Championship titles (2014, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24) under head coach Brian Peresie’s direction.

There are three new coaches in the MAC this season. Tanner Barton took over Bowling Green State University’s program after spending four seasons as the head coach for men's and women's swimming and diving at John Carroll University, which is a nationally ranked DIII intercollegiate program in nearby Cleveland, Ohio. Former Rocket and Varsity T Hall of Famer Jacy Dyer is one of the most decorated swimmers in Toledo history and returns to the Glass City after serving as the head coach for the men's and women's programs for two successful years at Fairfield University. Samantha Pitter arrived at Miami after serving the past two years as an associate head coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

Buffalo will host the 2024-25 MAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship on Wednesday, Feb. 28 – Saturday, March 1 at the Alumni Arena Natatorium & Dorsi Raynolds Pool in Buffalo, NY.
