Kayla Davis Named Women's Golfer of the Week

Kayla Davis tallied her first collegiate win, placing first at the Cardinal Classic. Davis used a 12-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to clinch the win. Davis posted career-bests in the first and third rounds of play, registering scores of 73 both times. The win marks the first for the Falcons since the fall of 2019.

Sophomore Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) led the Akron Zips golf team to the 2021 Ball State Cardinal Classic championship last week. During the final 18-hole round, David climbed 12 spots on the individual leaderboard with a 1-over par 73 performance. She finished the tournament with a 226 (+10) ledger as Akron claimed the team title with a 304-305-303 - 912 (+48) tally.
 
Angel Hii, Toledo        
Sophomore , Kuching, Malaysia (Tunku Putra International School)          
 
Sophomore Angel Hii led Toledo at Kansas State's Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational with a 31st-place finish. Hii posted a 54-hole score of 12-over par 228 after shooting a one-over 73 in the opening round and a three-over par 75 in the final round.
 
Anna Watson, Eastern Michigan       
Freshman, Ashland, Ohio-Ashland    
 
Freshman Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) tied her career best score with a final round 74 to finish in 12th with a 229 (80-75-74). It was the third career top-15 showing for Watson and her first since placing 11th at the Akron Invitational, April 16-17, 2021. Head Coach Stephanie Jennings' team fired a final round 304 to finish as the runner-up at the event with a 915 (312-299-304). EMU was in 10th-place after round one, but rebounded to jump eight spots during the final two trips around the par 72, 6,204-yard setup. It was the best tournament finish by an EMU squad to open a season since the 2007-08 season. That year, Eastern won the NIU Brickyard Invitational with a two-round score of 600, Sept. 10-11.

She led the Cardinals with the a tie for fourth. She led the team with seven birdies, which was tied for seventh among the field. She produced her second-straight top-25 finish of the season.
