MAC Announces Week 1 Field Hockey Players of the Week

MAC Defensive Player of the Week
Breanna McWhorter, Bellarmine
Goalkeeper, Senior, Louisville, KY (Manual)

Helped Bellarmine claim its first victory as a Division I team by repelling eight Ball State shots and limiting the Cardinals to just one goal in the Knights' season opener. (Bellarmine went 0-13 last spring when making the transition to DI: McWhorter posted the best saves per game average--9.4-- in the nation last year. )

MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Wuerstle, Kent State University

Forward, Sophomore, Collegeville, Pa. (Perkiomen Valley)

Sophomore forward Katie Wuerstle helped Kent State get off to an electric start in their win over Saint Louis this past weekend. Before even two minutes had passed in the first quarter, Wuerstle had already netted two goals, exactly 25 seconds apart from each other, to give the Flashes a lead they would never relinquish.

Teresa Schmidt, Bellarmine University
Midfield/Forward, Junior, St. Louis, MO (Cor Jesu Academy)

Helped maximize Bellarmine's offensive opportunities with good ball control and decision-making.  Contributed assists on both Bellarmine goals in the Knights' 2-1 victory over Ball State.
Other Nominees

Emma Hilton, Ball State
MF, Sophomore, CLARK, N.J. ARTHUR L JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL

Emma Hilton’s presence was felt all over the field as she neutralized Ohio State’s midfield and attackers for much of the Friday matchup. She was a part of a defensive unit and corner unit that held #22 OSU to a goal in 9 corner attempts. She was an important link to countering and bringing great offensive pressure to both #22 OSU and Bellarmine on Sunday.

Clara Rodriguez Seto, Kent State University
Midfielder, Fifth Year, Barcelona, Spain (Agora Sant Cugat)

Fifth year midfielder Clara Rodriguez Seto anchored a Kent State defensive that recorded a shutout against Saint Louis this past weekend. Rodriguez also added three shots, two of which were on goal. Against Michigan State, she tallied three more shots, scoring a goal while also registering a defensive save on the day.

Luna Lopez, Longwood
D, Senior, San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina (San Antonio de Padua)

Played every minute of Longwood's season-opening road games, leading the Lancers to a season-opening 1-0 win at Drexel Friday. She also turned in a marathon effort in Sunday's 3-2 loss at Lehigh. For the week, with Lopez anchoring Longwood's backline, Longwood's two opponents managed just 10 shots on goal while the Lancers outshot both a combined 31-17 overall. Lopez also contributed a goal and an assist in the two-game set.

Agostina Guidice, Ball State
Forward, Freshman, ROSARIO, SANTA FE, ARGENTINA COLEGIO SAN BARTOLOMÉ DE ROSARIO

Agostina generated attacking counters, circle penetrations, penalty corner, and goal opportunities in both of Ball State’s potent 4th quarters. While both Ohio State and Bellarmine withstood the onslaught of pressure, her presence left both teams barely escaping a Ball State comeback.
