MACON, Ga. – Senior George Proctor scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute and the Georgia State men's soccer team held on for a 1-0 win over Mercer on Sunday night at Betts Stadium.

The senior missed the regular season opener last Thursday after picking up a red card in the conference tournament championship game last season.

A little more than a minute after Proctor's goal, Mercer's Dylan Gaither got the Bears' lone shot on goal, but a save by Gunther Rankenburg kept the home team off the board.

Georgia State (1-1) topped Mercer (1-1) for the sixth-straight time and improved to 39-18-3 all-time in the series.

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team suffered its second straight road loss, falling at Loyola Chicago on Sunday night, 4-2.

The Broncos picked up goals from Max Keenan and Charlie Sharp but two penalty kick goals by the Ramblers proved costly.}

"Credit to Loyola," said head coach Chad Wiseman. "They are a veteran team, very discipline and they play extremely hard. We did not have th ementality we needed to start the game, which directly led to their first goal and from there we were always chasing the game."
ULC took an early 1-0 lead when John Gates converted on a WMU turnover in the ninth minute.

Western Michigan battled back quickly with a Keenan scoring in the 13th minute to tie it up at 1-1. Mike Melaragni played the ball into the right side of the box to Keenan, who fired from a sharp angle. Loyola Chicago goalie Marcel Kampman got a hand on the ball but Keenan put too much power behind it and it got past him and into the net. The goal was Keenan's first of the season with Melaragni tallying his first assist.

The Ramblers went back on top in the 24th minute on a goal by Oscar Dueso. Gates took advantage off a WMU defender slipping at the top of the box and played it off to Dueso for the goal from the right side. Just a minutes later Billy Hency scored his first of two penalty kick goals to push the lead to 3-1.

Sharp scored his first goal of the year in the 41st minute to cut the lead to 3-2. Freshman forward Roni Sylejmani recorded his first career assist on the goal.

Western Michigan had the bulk of the chances in the second half, including a header by Sharp that was cleared off the line. Daniel Nimick hit the cross bar on a shot in the 77th minute.

Hency converted his second penalty kick in the 83rd minute to seal the game.

"We can't concede goals like we have and expect to get results on the road," Wiseman added. "It just does not happen. We have a lot of fight within this team, we will regroup and look to be better next time out."
Western Michigan heads back on the road to take on Wisconsin on Thursday at 8 p.m. The Broncos will host their home-opener on Monday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. Prior to the game fans can take part in the annual Soccer Fest celebration at the WMU Soccer Complex practice field.
