MAC Promotes Jeff Bacon to Deputy Commissioner

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Mid-American Conference (MAC) Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher has announced the promotion of Jeff Bacon to Deputy Commissioner for Administration, Strategic Initiatives and Chief Sports Officer, effective immediately. 
 
“Jeff is a valued colleague whose efforts have assisted in providing outstanding service to the membership,” said Steinbrecher. “This promotion is a recognition of the leadership roles he has assumed and his contributions to the Mid-American Conference.” 
 
Bacon enters his 18th year with the MAC, having spent the last seven as Senior Associate Commissioner for Championships & Sport Development. He was originally hired as the league’s Compliance and Governance intern in 2004. 
 
Bacon currently oversees the operation of 21 sports and 23 championships for the MAC. He also serves as liaison to the MAC Presidential Steering Committee, charged with developing the future vision of the MAC. 
 
In addition, he has participated in a number of initiatives that have elevated the Conference, including development and execution of a strategic plan consisting of 143 objectives, creation of a Diversity and Inclusion Program that has since grown into a Holistic Student-Athlete Program, creation of an Academic Consortium featuring programming focused on faculty leadership development, creative revenue generation, and strategic scheduling models that have elevated both men’s and women’s basketball. Bacon has also played a key role in bidding for and managing NCAA events hosted by the Conference. 
 
Founded in 1946, the Mid-American Conference is an NCAA Division I, 12-member conference that sponsors 24 championships and is one of ten members of the Football Bowl Subdivison (FBS). With total enrollment of nearly 300,000 students, the league represents institutions of higher learning in five (5) states - Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, and Ohio.
