Rockets, Chippewas Earn "A" in Women in College Coaching Report Card

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Toledo and Central Michigan University were two of only 20 universities in the country to receive an "A" grade on the 2020-21 Women in College Coaching Report Card (WCCRC) presented by the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport. The Rockets and Chippewas each earned a 70 percent grade in the report, with seven head coaching positions filled by female coaches out of 10 women's varsity sports.

This marks the second consecutive year that each institution has earned an "A" grade in the annual report.

The Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport released its annual Women in College Coaching Report Card in collaboration with WeCOACH. The report, "Head coaches of women's collegiate teams: A comprehensive report on NCAA Division-I institutions, 2020-21," is an analysis of females vs. males holding head coach positions of women's teams in NCAA Division I. The report is authored by Nicole M. LaVoi, Ph.D., Director, the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport, and founding member of the WeCOACH Board of Directors; Courtney Boucher, the 2021 Pam Borton Fellow; and Hannah Silva-Breen, Graduate Research Assistant.

The Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women graded NCAA universities by the percentage of women who occupy head coaching and coaching staff positions for women's sport teams. The grading scale developed to accurately reflect the percentage of female coaches for women's sport teams is as follows: A= 70 to 100 percent, B= 55 to 69 percent, C= 40 to 54 percent, D= 25 to 39 percent and F= 0 to 24 percent.
