McGinty Claims MAC Freshman Of the Year Award For Women's Golf

Cleveland, Ohio -- Kent State's Caley McGinty has been tabbed by the 10 MAC Women's Golf coaches as the 2021 MAC Freshman of the Year. This season, all players who were eligible for the 2020 Freshman of the Year award were also eligible for the 2021 award due to the Conference not distributing awards last season.

Caley McGinty was crowned the MAC tournament champion earlier this season in Akron after finishing with a tournament total of 4-under 212. McGinty went 17 holes for par or better with three birdies en route to a 70 (-2) score in the final round.

After the tournament, McGinty headlined postseason award winners as the 2021 MAC Golfer of the Year, named to the First Team All-MAC, and All-Tournament Team.

At the NCAA Championships this past weekend, Caley McGinty finished the tournament tied for 97th at 230 (+14) and turned in a third round score of 77 (+5). The 16th-ranked Kent State women's golf team tallied an 899 (+35) 54-hole total to close the season in 17th place on Sunday at the NCAA Finals.
