OXFORD, Ohio—The Miami University softball team is headed to Lexington Regional for the NCAA Tournament and will face Notre Dame (31-13) on Friday, May 21 at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN3. Host Kentucky (39-13) is the top seed in the four-team regional and No. 14 overall seed and will face Northwestern (29-15) at noon on Friday in the double-elimination regional.

Miami, the 2021 Mid-American Conference Champions, make their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2016. Miami (46-8; 36-2 MAC) set a program record for wins, posting just the second 40-win season in program history. This will be the fourth meeting between the RedHawks and Fighting Irish in NCAA Tournament action, having faced off twice in Miami's last NCAA Tournament appearance.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Kirin Kumar, the RedHawks have been re-writing the record books, setting numerous Miami team and individual single-season records, and have already broken six MAC single-season team records. They rank among the Top 10 nationally in 10 team statistical categories this season with five RedHawks ranking among national leaders in 14 categories. Freshman Karli Spaid is among 15 finalists for the NFCA/Schutt Sports Division I Freshman of the Year award.
