CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Western Michigan offensive lineman Jaylon Moore became the second Bronco taken in the 2021 NFL Draft, while Tommy Doyle became the first Miami offensive lineman drafted since Brandon Brooks was taken in the third round of the 2012 Draft by the Houston Texans. Moore was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (155th overall), while Doyle was taken by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round with the 161st pick.
Moore played in 36 games over his WMU career, including all six games last fall. In 2020, he helped block for a WMU offense that ranked fourth in the MAC in yards per game (479.7). In the last full season, 2019, the Broncos finished in the top-three in the league in yards per game (445.7), while in 2018 the Bronco offensive line was second in the league with just 1.54 sacks per game allowed. Pro Football Focus gave Moore a 77.5 overall offensive rating in 2020, including a 75.8 run-block rating and 73.8 pass-block rating. He allowed just six total pressures (three sacks, two hits and one hurry) while committing only three penalties on the year.
Doyle is a two-time first-team All-MAC performer with expertise at both tackle positions. He started 16 games at left tackle during both the 2019 and 2020 seasons and has 14 starts at right tackle from 2017-18. He also earned Academic All-MAC in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Doyle was part of an offensive line that allowed just 26 sacks in 14 games and as the RedHawks went on to win its first MAC Championship since 2010. That same year Doyle was named the team's Offensive Power Player of the Year.
Moore becomes the 53rd Western Michigan player taken in the NFL or AFL drafts and the 10th Bronco taken since 2016. After the selection of D'Wayne Eskridge in Friday's second round, Western Michigan has had multiple players taken in the NFL Draft in four of the past six seasons.
