Miami Sits on Top After First Day of Men's Swim and Dive Championship


Day 1 Results

OXFORD, Ohio -- After six events, the host Miami RedHawks hold the lead at the 2021 MAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championship in Oxford, Ohio. Miami finished the day with a 260 points, followed closely by Missouri State, who sits in second place with 232 total points. 

The RedHawks began the championships with a win in the 200-medley relay (1:18.73), getting the victory with the new MAC record. The team of Pedro Gueiros, Cole Grosshans, Nic Wamsley, and Ben Chatwin earned the win. Miami also finished on top in the 400-medley relay (3:10.30), securing another MAC record. Owen Blazer, Noah Barr, Henju Duvenhage, and Wamsley earned the huge 40 points for Miami.

Duvenhage also earned an individual victory on day one, clinching the 200 individual medley event with a time of 1:45.45. 

In the 500 free finals, Missouri State's Pawel Krawczyk garnered the Bears' first gold medal of the championships, winning the event in a school-record and pool-record time of 4:19.40. With the win, Krawczyk has now won the past three 500 free finals at the MAC Championships.

In the 1-Meter Diving Finals, Michael Claunch dominated the field for Missouri State posting a score of 310.00 to take home the gold. The win was Claunch's first in the 1-meter event at the MAC championships as he finished second a year ago. 

Southern Illinois junior Zander Minano took home gold for SIU, breaking the school record in the 50-yard freestyle event, as the Salukis saw success and tallied big points on day one of the Championship.

Day two of the 2021 MAC Swim and Dive Championship will begin at 10:30 am with prelims, while final races will begin at 6:30 pm, starting with the 200 Medley Relay.
