AKRON, Ohio - A dominant first-half performance propelled the University of Akron women's lacrosse team to a decisive 17-6 triumph over rival Kent State (3-8, 2-4 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action on Tuesday, April 20 at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.
On the strength of the victory, the Zips (6-7, 3-5 MAC) picked up a coveted half point in the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge. Akron now leads the series, 5.0-4.0.

Abby McMullen (Medina, Ohio) added three, three, two, two, one and one goals, respectively, for Akron.
The Zips also benefited from three assists each from McMullen and Pattison and two apiece courtesy of Boyd and Glassey.

Ashley Lapp (Missouri City, Texas) registered 10 saves for Akron.
The Golden Flashes scored the initial tally in the match before the Zips scored the next eight goals to assume an 8-1 lead at the 20:01 mark after a tally from Dennison.
Akron held a 9-2 advantage at halftime on the strength of a 20-7 advantage in first-half shots.
The Zips continued their dominating effort in the second half scoring six of the final seven goals in the match to triumph past Kent State.
Akron is slated travel to face Detroit in a 2 p.m. tilt on Saturday, April 24.

DETROIT, Mich. – The Kent State women's lacrosse team (4-8, 3-4 MAC) mounted a second-half comeback to beat Detroit Mercy (2-3, 2-3 MAC) to conclude a three-game road stretch.
The Flashes shot out to a 5-1 lead with a well-balanced scoring attack. The Titans fired back, scoring the next six goals before
Abby Jones tallied a goal near the end of the first half to bring Kent State within one.
After two early second-half goals by Detroit Mercy to extend their lead to three, 9-6, it was all Kent State the remaining of the game. The Golden Flashes outscored the Titans 11-3 over the final 23 minutes to secure the victory.
It was a career afternoon for two Golden Flashes as
Jackie Wolford and
Kenzie Sklar both set career-highs in goals (5) and points (7). The duo stepped up in the absence of Kent State leading goal scorer
Madison Rapier to carry the Flashes to their fourth win of the season.
Jones, the Flashes second-leading scorer, recorded three goals in the game.
Megan Kozar added two goals and two assists, while
Pilar Lewis and
Jordan Zablo each added a goal of their own.
Morgan Kubicki led the charge off the draw, securing a career-high five draw controls.
Graceyn Dean also recorded a career-high with four ground balls, and
Lexi Piekarski added a career-high three caused turnovers.
The Golden Flashes host Youngstown State in search of their fourth Mid-American Conference win of the season at Dix Stadium on Sunday, April 25, at 12 p.m. Kent State will then travel to Central Michigan on April 28 before wrapping up its season on May 1 against Detroit Mercy.
