Northern Illinois and Western Michigan Earn Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week

Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week 
Bor Schweiger Muzar, NIU
Senior, Crnomelj, Slovenia


Playing at number one for NIU, Bor Schweiger Muzar earned a pair of three set victories to help the Huskies to wins over Toledo and Ball State. Muzar opened with a 7-6, 1-6, 10-5 victory over Thawin Suksathaporn of Toledo before adding a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win against Ball State’s Thibault De Negri to improve to 14-6 this season, playing all 20 matches at number one. 

Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week 
Jack Randall, Western Michigan, Junior, Lockport, Ill. 
Fynn Lohse, Western Michigan, Junior, Kaltenkirchen, Germany


Lohse and Randall went 3-0, all at No. 2 doubles, as the Broncos earned wins over Ball State, Omaha and Toledo.Against the Cardinals they defeated Thibault De Negri and Parish Simmons, 6-3. Against the Mavericks they defeated Hugo Piles Ballester and Davis Lawley 6-3 and wrapped up the weekend with a 6-3 win over Cole Shoults and Filip Zupancic from Toledo, helping the Broncos earn the doubles point in all three matches.The duo is now 6-0 when paired together this season.

Benjamin George went 3-0 in singles play on the weekend as the Broncos defeated Ball State, Omaha and Toledo. Against the Cardinals he put the Broncos up 3-0 with a win at No. 6 over BSU's Parish Simmons, 6-1, 6-3. He moved up to No. 4 against the Mavericks and defeated Davis Lawley 6-3, 6-2 and then wrapped up the weekend with a three-set win at No. 6 over Toledo's Luis Kleinschnitz 1-6, 6-2, 6-0. George is now 10-0 in singles play on the season.

Oliver Valentinsson, NIU, Sophomore, Malmo, Sweden


NIU’s pairing of Kristopher Ortega and Oliver Valentinsson earned two victories at number three doubles to help the Huskies top Toledo and Ball State. The NIU duo opened the weekend with a 6-2 win over Wojciech Szczesny and Krzysztof Wetoszka of Toledo before adding another 6-2 victory against Eli Herran and Bryce Bonin of Ball State. As a duo, Ortega and Valentinsson now have a 17-4 record this season.
