AKRON, Oh. The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team improved to 10-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in MAC play Saturday afternoon with a 18-4 win over the Akron Zips.

Twelve different Colonials scored in the victory, led by Colleen Tifft and Mackenzie Gandy each with a hat trick as RMU maintains its spot atop the MAC standings.

In what was arguably their most balanced half of the season, RMU raced out to an 11-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of play against the Zips as nine different goal scorers combined to give the Colonials a commanding lead early.

Melanie Gandy kicked things off just 2:14 off the opening draw, beating Akron keeper Abby Lerch for her first of the game.
Jordan Anderson converted a free position attempt to make it 2-0 before Mackenzie Gandy joined her sister on the scoresheet, making it a three goal lead for RMU just 4:07 into the first half.

RMU was once again able to maintain their rhythm of attack thanks in large part to Jordan Anderson's prowess in the draw control unit.  The sophomore finished with six draws in the first half, part of an 8-4 mark overall for RMU.

Hannah Miller, Clio Kerr, Isabelle Robarge and Colleen Tifft combined to make it seven straight goals from seven different players midway through the first before Mackenzie Gandy's second of the day pushed the lead to eight.

They would end the half up eleven goals with a running clock following the opening half offensive barrage.

Tifft completed her hat trick to keep the momentum rolling for RMU at the onset of the second, capping off a phenomenal sequence from Melanie Gandy in which the attacker caused a turnover on Akron's Mackenzie Kirwan before scooping the ground ball and setting up Tifft with a nice assist on the third goal, one of four helpers on the day for Gandy.

With the clock continuing to roll, the Colonials also received goals from Kelley Flynn and Isabelle Robarge as well as the second of the year from Emilie Kim

Though Akron managed to get a few back with time winding down, the Colonials held a MAC opponent to under five goals for the fourth time this season to come away with the eventual 18-4 win.

They finished the afternoon with a 32-10 advantage in total shots as well as a 28-8 edge in shots on goal.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (4/17/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team established a new program record for goals in a game as the Titans won their second-straight road contest with a 24-12 victory at Youngstown State on Saturday.

The 24 goals in the contest was a new school record for the squad, one more than the previous mark which was achieved three different times. Detroit Mercy scored early and often during the contest and built up a 16-5 halftime advantage over the host Penguins from the Covelli Sports Complex.

The Titans (2-2, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) then scored on eight of their 10 shots in the second half to seal the victory. The Titans also dominated in the draw circle on Saturday, with the red, white and blue tallying a 16-6 advantage by halftime and 24-14 edge overall in the contest over YSU.

Senior midfielder Taylor Cantelon set a new single-game school record for draw controls in a contest, recording 16 draw controls for the Titans, four better than the previous single-game mark in Titan history. Cantelon was integral in helping the Titans set up their offense quickly throughout the game.

Offensively, five Titans posted hat tricks in the game with junior midfielder Elise Harder scoring a career-high six goals and totaling seven points overall. Senior attacker Kamryn Corraro added five goals and tallied seven points, with sophomore attacker Marina Butler and freshman attacker Cat Kopchia both setting career-highs with four goals each. Kopchia had an assist for a career-best five points. Junior midfielder Taryn McManus was the fifth Titan with a hat trick with three goals and two assists, also adding three draw controls.

The Titans were strong defensively as well, with three different goalkeepers combining for 10 saves. Sophomore GK Hannah Shrader made four saves before halftime, senior Maddie Johnson made five saves in the second half and freshman goalkeeper MaKayla Nelson made one save in her collegiate debut for the red, white and blue.

YSU (1-6, 1-6 MAC) scored the first goal of the contest, but the Titans scored seven of the next eight to lead 7-2 at the 17:43 mark of the first half. Corraro, Harder and McManus each had two goals during that 7-1 stretch. After a YSU goal, Detroit Mercy would go on another big run, this time an 8-1 span as Detroit Mercy went ahead 15-4 with 4:53 remaining in the opening half.  Six different Titans scored during the run, with Harder and Butler both scoring twice. Butler added her third goal of the game and the Titans' 16th just before the halftime break.

The Penguins scored the first two goals of the second half, however Detroit Mercy scored the next three to lead 19-7. Sophomore attacker Annie Gilbert, who scored the game-winning goal at Akron earlier this week, got on the board and Corraro and Butler each followed with goals one minute apart. YSU would again close the gap to 10 goals, 19-9, but Detroit Mercy scored five of the next six goals to lead 24-10 with just 4:39 left in the contest.

The red, white and blue put 32-of-36 shot attempts on goal (88.9%) during the contest and also went 17-of-19 on clear attempts (89.4%) during the game. Detroit Mercy went a perfect 7-for-7 on free-position attempts in the contest with Harder and McManus each converting on a pair of chances.

Junior defender Claire Conway had a team-high five ground balls for the Titans, while Corraro was credited with four GB. Harder scored on six of her seven shots on net, while Butler scored on all four shots on goal.

The Titans had scored 23 goals in a game three previous times, with all of them coming against Howard (2015, 2018, 2019).

Cantelon's 16 draw controls bettered the previous school mark of 12, set by former teammate Kaitlyn Wandelt on April 14, 2019 against Wofford.

The 24 draw controls as a team are tied for the second-most in school history and is the most by a Titan team since 2012.

The seven free-position goals is also tied for the second-most all-time in program history (school record for FPG in a game is nine).

Harder's six goals are the most by a Titan player in a game since Wandelt scored six goals against Winthrop on March 4, 2020.

Corraro tied her career-high with five goals, also scoring five against Furman in 2019.

It was the second meeting between the two programs, with both of them coming this season (series tied, 1-1).

The Titans improved to 2-1 on the road this season.
