BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Achille Robin's penalty-kick goal in overtime lifted the Bowling Green State University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Northern Illinois University on Sunday afternoon (April 18) at Cochrane Stadium. With the win, the Falcons clinched the Mid-American Conference championship and the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

Chris Sullivan, a native of Naperville, Ill., scored the Falcons' first goal in the 20th minute, but the Huskies equalized early in the second half as Irvin Dominguez scored less than two minutes after the break. But, Nathan Masters was fouled in the penalty area at the 98:46 mark, leading to Robin's winning PK.

The Falcons, as mentioned, have earned the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Selection Show will air Monday (April 19) at 12:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com, and the first round of the 36-team tournament will take place at various venues in the state of North Carolina on April 29.

The Falcons advance to the NCAA Championships for the seventh time in program history, but the first time since 1997.

The 2020-21 academic year marks the first time in school history that both the BGSU men's and women's soccer teams have qualified for the NCAA Championships.
