Ball State and Western Michigan Tabbed for Men's Tennis Honors

Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week 
Thibault de Negri, Ball State

In the Cardinals lone match this weekend, junior Thibault de Negri helped the Ball State move past Toledo with a 4-3 road victory after taking both the first and second sets by a score of 7-6 from the Rockets Cole Shoults at the No. 1 singles position. With the win, de Negri improved his MAC record to 5-1 on the season while helping the Cardinals win their fifth-straight moving their overall record to 15-3 and 4-2 in MAC play.

Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Jack Randall, Western Michigan, Junior, Lockport, Ill.
Fynn Lohse, Western Michigan, Junior, Kaltenkirchen, Germany


Randall and Lohse helped the Broncos earn the doubles point in their 5-2 win over Buffalo on Friday. The duo defeated Simon Wibler and Finn Macnamara, 6-3, at No. 2. It was just the third time the two had been paired together, improving their record to 3-0 on the season.

Kuszynski helped WMU stay perfect in MAC play after a 5-2 win at Buffalo on Friday. The junior defeated Valdemar Holm at No. 2 6-4, 6-2, improving his singles record to 6-0 in conference play and 16-1 overall on the season. 

Kristopher Ortega, NIU

Kristopher Ortega went a perfect 2-0 in singles matches against Niagara and Buffalo, helping the Huskies to a pair of team wins as they improved to 19-2 overall, the most wins for the program since 2011-12. In the first match of the week against Niagara, Ortega, playing at number two, topped Jorge Sedeno, 6-2, 6-2. Moving into the number three spot for the match with Buffalo, Ortega scored another 6-2, 6-2 victory over Matthew Johnson. Individually, Ortega has a 13-6 overall record.

?UB's number three doubles squad had a big weekend helping the Bulls claim the doubles point against nationally ranked Northern Illinois on Sunday.  Hastings and Petersen came away with the 6-4 win over Kristopher Ortega and Oliver Valentinsson.  On Friday, Hastings and Petersen were in a competitive match against #41 Western Michigan when the doubles point was halted.
