NIU and Ball State Share Tennis Honors

Men's Singles Player of the Week
Bor Schweiger Muzar, NIU

Bor Schweiger Muzar posted a perfect 2-0 mark, helping the Huskies to two wins for the week. Playing at number one, Muzar scored a 7-5, 6-3 over Karan Srivastava of Eastern Illinois. He then topped Eastern Illinois’ Leighton Brandon, 6-1, 6-2, in the second match between the Huskies and Panthers. With the two wins, Muzar improved to 11-5 in singles this season while helping NIU move to 17-1 as a team. 

Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Parrish Simmons, Ball State, Sophomore, Huntsville, Ala
Thibault de Negri, Ball State, Junior, DE HAAN, BELGIUM


Ball State’s No. 2 duo of Thibault de Negri and Parrish Simmons clinched the doubles point against Butler this weekend in the Cardinals lone match of the week. Simmons and de Negri took down the Butler Bulldogs Drew Michael and Borja Miralles by a 6-4 decision. The twosome helped Ball State later earn a 6-1 victory against the Bulldogs while also moving the No. 44 Cardinals overall record to 12-3 on the season.

In the Cardinals lone competition this week, Danilo Kovacevic continued his winning ways after registering a straight set defeat over Butler’s No. 2 singles player Michael Dickson, 7-5, 6-4. Kovacevic, who has helped the the No. 44 Cardinals to one of the their best spring starts improved his overall singles record this spring to 10-5. With the win, Kovacevic also allowed Ball State to defeat the Bulldogs 6-1 and improve BSU's record to 12-3 on the season.

The Huskie pairing of Armin Koschtojan and Luke VanDonslear posted a pair of wins in NIU’s two matches this week against Eastern Illinois. In the first meeting with the Panthers, the NIU tandem topped Leighton Brandon and Charles Courteau, 6-2. Koschtojan and VanDonslear then claimed a 6-2 win over Cameron Slabbert and Juan Carlos Garrido as the pairing moved to 4-0 this season while helping the Huskies improve to 17-1 this year.
