MAC Announces Week 8 Volleyball Players of the Week

East Division
Offensive Player of the Week    
Petra Indrova, Bowling Green, Outside Hitter    
Bowling Green sophomore outside hitter Petra Indrova put together two strong matches against Eastern Michigan as the Falcons advanced to 15-0 and clinched a berth in the MAC Tournament. Indrova began the series against EMU with a team-high 15 kills while maintaining a .353 hitting percentage and landing an ace. As for the second match, Indrova logged a .414 hitting percentage on 29 attempts with 14 kills and just two errors. She was also able to tally 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week   
Taylor Sharrits, Akron, Libero    
Senior libero Taylor Sharrits anchored the Zips’ defense with 9.29 en route to 65 digs against Western Michigan last week. She added seven assists and two service aces in a pair of setbacks to western division leaders. In the opening match, Sharrits recoded 38 digs in four sets, averaging 9.5 digs per set. She issued both service aces during the match and had five assists. In the second match, Sharrits had 27 digs and two assists.
 
Setter of the Week
Hanna Laube, Bowling Green, Setter
Bowling Green junior setter Hanna Laube led the Falcons in assists in both wins over Eastern Michigan as the Falcons advanced to 15-0 on the season and clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament. In the first match, Laube had 38 assists, averaging just over 12 per set while also registered two kills and three block assists. As for the second match, Laube had 42 assists over three sets for an average of 14 assists per set. She again landed two kills in addition to two aces and seven digs with another block assist.
 
West Division
Offensive Player of the Week
Rachel Bontrager, Western Michigan, Outside hitter      
In yet another perfect weekend for the Broncos the team was led by senior outside hitter Rachel Bontrager with 36 kills, averaging 5.14 per set with back-to-back double-doubles. Bontrager recorded 28 digs in the two matches against Akron, averaging 4.00 per set. In the two matches the Valparaiso, Ind., native also recorded a .305 hitting percentage. In a four-set victory over Akron on Friday, Bontrager registered a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs, a season-high in digs for Bontrager. Against the Zips on Friday, Bontrager also had one service ace and one block. On Saturday in a three-set win Bontrager recorded her team-high sixth double-double of the season with 20 kills and 12 digs. Bontrager’s 20 kills also propelled Bontrager over the 1,500 career kills mark, becoming just the third Bronco in school history to do so. In the three-set win the senior outside hitter posted a .459 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks. It’s the 12th straight match Bontrager recorded double digit kills. For her career Bontrager is just 25 digs away from reaching 1,000 career digs. Bontrager can become the only player in school history with 1,500 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
 
Defensive Player of the Week   
Kaley Smith, Western Michigan, Libero/Defensive Specialist         
Smith guided the Broncos this past weekend to four and three set victories at Akron over the weekend with 40 digs, averaging 5.71 digs per set. The senior libero/defensive specialist also had eight assists on the weekend to go along with two service aces, averaging 0.29 per set. In the four set victory over Akron on Friday, Smith led the Broncos with 22 digs while matching her career-high with five assists. In the sweep of Akron on Saturday, Smith led the way defensively once again with 18 digs while having two service aces and three assists. Smith has now recorded double-digit digs in six straight matches.
 
Setter of the Week
Logan Case, Western Michigan, Setter  
Freshman setter Logan Case posted one double-double to go along with 96 assists, averaging 13.71 assists per set en route to a 2-0 weekend for the Broncos over Akron. Case also notched two service aces to go along with 24 digs and three blocks. In the four set victory over Akron on Friday, Case earned her third double-double of the season with 50 assists and 15 digs. Case’s 50 assists mark the fifth time this season the freshman setter has eclipsed more than 50 assists. The 15 digs for Case marked a new career-high. On Saturday Case led WMU once again with 46 assists and nearly earned a double-double with nine digs. Case also had three blocks against the Zips on Saturday.
