Women's Singles Tennis Player of the Week
Emma-Lou Pommier, Eastern Michigan, Redshirt Freshman, Aire-sur-I'Adour, France

Redshirt freshman Emma-Lou Pommiers had a strong start to the 2021 season, earning two singles wins in back-to-back matches. Saturday, Jan. 30 at Cleveland State, Pommiers earned a win in consecutive sets, 6-2 and 6-1. The next day, Sunday. Jan. 31, at Youngstown State, the redshirt freshman again won a point for her team, besting the competition in two sets, 6-1 and 6-4. Both wins came with the France native playing in the No. 5 spot.

Vasavi Ganesan, Eastern Michigan, Redshirt Junior, Tamil Nadu, India 


Eastern Michigan's No. 2 doubles pairing is off to a hot-start in their first two meets at Cleveland State, Jan. 30, and at Youngstown State, Jan. 31. Redshirt Freshman Isabelle Popma and redshirt junior Vasavi Ganesan helped secure the crucial doubles point at CSU, winning their matchup 6-2. The following day, at YSU, the pair again defeated their opponents, this time 6-4, but EMU was unable to secure another win in doubles play. Popma and Vasavi begin the 2021 season 2-0 in doubles play.

Emma Peeler, Ball State, Sophomore, Cleveland, Ohio

Peeler came within a few points of knocking off Notre Dame No. 1 singles player Cameron Corse, one of the nation's top 125 players in the Oracle/ITA rankings. Peeler won 10 total games to Corse's eight and took the second set by two breaks before falling just short in a 10-7 match tiebreaker. Then after two tough road matches against Louisville and Notre Dame to open the season, the sophomore returned home for a straight set (6-2, 6-2) take down against Valparaiso’s Claire Czerwonka Sunday to help the Cardinals to a 6-1 defeat over the Crusaders.

Lindsay Zieglar, Western Michigan, Soph.Daytona Beach, Fla.

Ziegler went 2-0 in singles play to help the Broncos start the season off 2-0 after sweeping Ferris State in a double-header on Saturday. Ziegler opened the day going 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 2 singles, helping the Broncos win the opening match 6-1. She moved up to No. 1 singles in the evening, winning 7-6, 6-1 to help WMU win 7-0 in the second match.

The Ball State No. 1 duo of Emma Peeler and Jessica Braun put up a tough competition Friday at Notre Dame. Although, the score does not reflect how close the competition was Peeler and Braun would end up losing the match 6-3 to ND's Cameron Corse and Page Freeman.

Ziegler and Tiraspolsky went 2-0 in doubles play as the Broncos swept Ferris State in a double-header on Saturday.
The duo secured the doubles point in the first match of the day, finishing second, with a 6-2 win at No. 3. In the second match of the day they moved up to No. 2 doubles, winning 7-6 (10-7).
