Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Sophomore, Lewis Center, Ohio/Orange
In his first track race of the season, the sophomore ran a new personal best in the mile, winning the race over NCAA All-American teammate Sean Torpy. This stellar mark at the Sycamore Team Challenge meet places him number 1 in the conference and 20 in the NCAA.

Ryan Smith, Miami
Sophomore, Loveland, Ohio/Moeller
The redshirt sophomore improved his official indoor PR for Miami from 15.39m to 17.12m this weekend at the Sycamore Team Challenge, showing off the consistent work and dedication he has given to his event all year. The stellar improvement in his personal best also gave him the title in the Shot Put at the meet.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Emily Akin, Miami
Junior, Hudson, Ohio/Hudson
Emily Akin, a junior, ran away with this 3000-meter race, finishing 12 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher. This is Akin's second individual win so far this season, keeping her undefeated on the track to start off the 2021 track season on a high note.

Ebonie Whitted, Bowling Green
Junior, Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield
Ebonie Whitted won the Sid Sink Invitational with a personal best mark of 50-feet-9.5 (15.48m) in the shot put. Whitted moved into fourth in the MAC with the performance, defeating teammate Zaresha Neal along the way, who ranks second in the conference. Whitted's distance also places her in the top 40 nationally, at No. 36.

Abby Moore,Ohio
Senior, Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown
Senior Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) picked up where she left off last season, turning in a pair of first-place finishes for the Ohio track & field team last Saturday (January 30) as the Bobcats opened their 2021 indoor season at the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, W. Va. Moore won the shot put with a mark of 13.85 meters and took the top spot in the weight throw with a toss of 17.66 meters.
Sydney Jefferson, Miami
Junior, West Chester, Ohio/Mount
Sydney Jefferson competed at Indiana State with a bang, getting her first-ever collegiate win, and she did it with a 54cm PR. Jefferson's distance is also in the Miami indoor track and field boards, with the distance being sixth all-time on the RedHawk historical leaderboards.
Alexis Thigpen, BSU
Freshman, New Albany, OH
Alexis Thigpen, a freshman competing in her second indoor meet, ran a 57.08 (converted to 56.34) to win the 400m Friday at Bowling Green. Her time is better than any other 400m time in the MAC. Thigpen won the race on Friday by a full 2.5 seconds.
Alysse Wade, Eastern Michigan
Junior, Mansfield, Ohio/St. Peter's
Junior Alysse Wade captured the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds at the Sid Sink Invitational, Jan. 29. For Wade, she has not lost a 60m hurdles event since placing fourth at the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 21, 2020. Additionally, her time ranks first in the Mid-American Conference.
Jemeila Hunter, Bowling Green
Sophomore, Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North
Jemeila Hunter won the 200 at the Sid Sink Invitational with a season-best time of 25.07 seconds. That time converts down to 24.69 seconds and is second in the MAC this year, behind only teammate Ryan Draper.
