MUNCIE, Ind. - Behind senior forward
Oshlynn Brown's career high 33 points, the Ball State women's basketball team was able to lead the entire contest and hold off a tenacious Miami team at the end for a 85-82 victory Wednesday night in Worthen Arena.
Perseverance to get inside the paint (40-22) was ultimately the statistic that allowed the Cardinals (7-5, 5-3 MAC) to seal the win over the visiting RedHawks (1-13, 0-10 MAC).
Ball State also scored 15 second chance points and was sent to the line 45 times, with Brown shooting a program record 26 free throws. Brown also pulled down 15 rebounds for her 39th career double-double.
Other key players in tonight's game were led by Agustsdottir who finished the night with 16 points. Freeman also reached double figures with 15 points and Clephane rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12.
The Ball State women's basketball team returns to the road Saturday when it travels to Western Michigan for a 2 p.m. ET tipoff in Read Fieldhouse.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – In a battle of strength versus strength, it was Eastern Michigan University women's basketball's top-ranked defense (61.1 ppg) that prevailed over Ohio University's top-ranked offense (81.1 ppg). The Eagles women's basketball team downed the Bobcats, 69-66, Wednesday, Jan. 27, inside the Convocation Center.
Prior to this matchup, the Green and White had dropped the last two meetings and six of the last seven at the hands of its Athens, Ohio-based foe. The Eagles' (9-6, 6-4 MAC) win ended the Bobcats' (8-5, 6-4 MAC) three-game winning streak and vaulted EMU into the upper half of the MAC standings. Defense paved the way for the Eagles, as they made life difficult on Ohio's two leading scorers. Eastern held Ohio's CeCe Hooks and Erica Johnson to a combined 42 points on 17-of-47 shooting from the field. Hooks and Johnson came into the game as the conference's first and fourth-leading scorers, respectively.
The Eagles were paced by redshirt sophomore
Ce'Nara Skanes (Oklahoma City, Okla.-Putnam City West (Florida International)), who poured in 22 points and collected 16 rebounds to register her ninth double-double of the season. In addition to Skanes,
Areanna Combs (Oklahoma City, Okla.-Putnam City West (Oklahoma State)) notched 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Oklahoma City native is now 11 points short of 1000 in her career. Junior
Natalia Pineda (Miami, Fla.-John A. Ferguson) had a night for the books, as she went 3-for-5 from deep and notched a season-high 13 points. Junior
Terrysha Banner (Surprise, Ariz.-Valley Vista) also produced career-high nine points and seven rebounds to contribute towards the Eastern win.
Eastern will head south to Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 30, to face MAC opponent, Kent State University. The all-time series with the Golden Flashes is currently tied 16-16. Tipoff is slated for noon on ESPN3.

TOLEDO, Ohio – In a game of runs, she who runs last generally wins.
Molly Davis scored 27 points and Central Michigan made a season-high 63 percent of its field goal attempts on Wednesday in downing Toledo, 83-74, in a Mid-American Conference game at the Rockets' Savage Arena.
Davis, a sophomore guard, made nine of her 13 field goal attempts and finished five of eight from 3-point range. It marked the fourth-consecutive game in which she has scored 20 or more points. She scored a career-high 32 points in Saturday's win over Akron.
Micaela Kelly added 17 points and a season-high eight assists against just two turnovers for the Chippewas, while
Jahari Smith had 16 points and
Kyra Bussell added 14.
It was the Chippewas' second-straight win as they improved to 9-5, 7-3 MAC. Toledo is 8-6, 4-6.

Northern Illinois 76, Akron 63

AKRON, OHIO – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team outscored the Akron Zips by 12 points in the second half to come away with a 76-63 win at James A. Rhodes Arena Wednesday. The win is the Huskies' fifth in the last six games.
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led NIU with 19 points, adding four rebounds and three assists.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had her third double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Errin Hodges (Pontiac, Ill./Evansville Central [Ind.]) nearly had a double-double as well, finishing the game with nine points and 10 boards.
The Huskies shot 44.4 percent from the field and held Akron to 32.4 percent. NIU pulled down a season-high 57 rebounds and held a season-high plus-25 rebound margin. Martindale led Akron with 20 points.
The Huskies are back in action at the NIU Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 30 against the Miami RedHawks at 1 p.m.
Bowling Green 77, Western Michigan 53

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter en route to a 77- 53 victory over Western Michigan University Wednesday night (Jan. 27). The Mid-American Conference matchup took place inside the Stroh Center.
After a slow start at the offensive end, the Falcons (12-3, 8-2 MAC) used a three-point barrage to take the lead for good late in the first quarter. The Broncos (2-9, 1-8 MAC) hung around, and had two chances to cut the deficit to six points in the fourth quarter before running out of gas.

Nyla Hampton three-pointer put the BG lead back into double digits, and begin a game-ending 15-0 run. The Falcons held WMU scoreless over the final 6:57 to pull away.
Sophomore
Elissa Brett scored 17 points to tie her career high and pace four double-digit scorers. Brett was 7-of-11 from the field as BGSU shot over 50 percent for the second-straight game.
Freshmen
Lexi Fleming and
Nyla Hampton scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, while senior
Angela Perry added 11.
The Broncos got a game-high 18 points from Sydney Shafer, while Taylor Williams added 14 and Reilly Jacobson 10.
