MAC Gymnast of the Week
Abby Fletcher, Kent State, Senior
Senior Abby Fletcher kicked off her final season as a Golden Flash with an impressive performance on three events, including a dazzling 9.875 floor routine to pick up the individual event title. She wasn’t done there as she posted a 9.750 on beam to finish tied for second place, and a 9.750 on vault to tie for fourth place. Fletcher helped the Flashes post an impressive 194.675 total score in the season opener, the highest score by any MAC team this season. Her individual score of 9.875 ranks first in the MAC and tied for 25th in the country.
MAC Specialist of the Week
Kyndall Gilbert, Kent State, Freshman
Gilbert started her collegiate career off in impressive fashion, winning the individual title on vault with a 9.850. Her vault score is the highest in the Mid-American Conference through one week and tied for 23
rd in the country. The freshman wasn’t done there as she posted a 9.725 on floor and finished in 6
th place.
Other Gymnast Nominees
Taylor Jensen, Bowling Green, Sophomore
Taylor Jensen established a career-best in the all-around, scoring a 38.600 to win the all-around in a meet at Kent State Sunday. Jensen opened with a 9.575 on bars and then tied her career-best with a 9.525 on vault. She followed that up with a pair of 9.750 scores on floor and beam, tying for second overall on beam.
Jada Rondeau, Eastern Michigan, Senior
Senior Jada Rondeau started her senior campaign tying her career-high on bars of 9.850, and claiming first place in the event at the Temple Triangular. Rondeau also led the floor squad for EMU, scoring 9.750, and contributed a 9.675 on beam.
Other Specialist Nominees
Alex Fochler, Bowling Green, Senior
Alex Fochler scored a 9.750 on both bars and beam as Bowling Green competed at Kent State Sunday. Fochler’s 9.750 on bars bettered her average of 9.589 on the event from a year ago, while her other 9.750 score came in the first time she had ever competed on beam.
Courtney Bezold, Eastern Michigan, Senior
Senior Cortney Bezold continues to be a force on bars, starting her senior season with a 9.825 on bars at the Temple Triangular. Coming in second-place, Bezold was part of a crucial start that got the Eagles the lead early in the meet.
