MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.
– The Central Michigan baseball team is 38th in the preseason Fabulous 50, a ranking by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The Chippewas, who finished 11-6 in the abbreviated 2020 season, are the only Mid-American Conference team in the Fabulous 50.

The Chippewas are the second Northern school on the list behind No. 18 Michigan. Northern schools behind CMU are Indiana (39), Minnesota (46) and Notre Dame (47). Florida, which was 16-1 in 2020, is No. 1 in the Fabulous 50. Vanderbilt, the 2019 College World Series champion, is No. 2.

The Chippewas won both the MAC regular-season and tournament championships in 2019, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.

It was Bischel's first season in charge of the program, and he was named the MAC Coach of the Year after leading his club to a program-record-tying 47 victories. CMU's .770 win percentage (47-14) was the fifth best in the nation and the Chippewas improved their win total by 18 games over the previous season.
