WESTERN MICHIGAN WINS INSTITUTIONAL ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
 
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Western Michigan University has been named the winner of the 2019-20 Mid-American Conference Institutional Academic Achievement Award.  For this annual award, Western Michigan posted an overall athletic grade point average (GPA) of 3.317 for the 2019-20 academic year (fall semester) based on 376 students in 16 sports.
 
This marks the second time for the Western Michigan athletic program to earn this prestigious honor and the first time since the 2016-17 academic year.  All GPA's were based upon the fall semester. 
 
“Our student-athletes have continued to perform as champions,” said Western Michigan Director of Athletics Kathy Beauregard.  “I am so proud of all our Broncos. I am not at all surprised by their classroom efforts. This award speaks to the total team effort of Western Michigan Athletics. I also want to thank all our academic support services, as well as all our parents, coaches and support members who were so consistent and dedicated to helping our student-athletes during this year.” 
 
All 12 MAC athletic programs earned a collective 3.00 GPA or higher for the 2019-20 academic year.  In addition, this marked the seventh consecutive year for all 12 MAC athletic programs to post a 3.00 GPA or higher for consideration for this prestigious award.
 
The honor is presented annually to the MAC institution which achieves the highest overall institutional GPA for student-athletes competing in institutionally sponsored sports for the academic year.   A list of each top-three school’s 2019-20 GPA follows:
