NCAA Recognizes MAC Athletic Programs For Academic Performance


NCAA RECOGNIZES MAC ATHLETIC PROGRAMS FOR MULTI-YEAR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE;
INCLUDING 42 MAC TEAMS ACROSS 16 SPORTS


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced today the public recognition for outstanding academic performance to athletic programs from the Mid-American Conference (MAC), which includes a total of 42 different teams recognized across 16 sports. Full NCAA Release.
 
Based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR), these 42 MAC teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport.
 
Bowling Green (Men’s Cross Country; Men’s Golf; Women’s Basketball; Women’s Golf; Women’s Volleyball), Miami (Men’s Cross Country; Men’s Golf; Women’s Basketball; Women’s Cross Country; Women’s Volleyball) and Ohio (Field Hockey; Women’s Basketball; Women’s Golf; Women’s Soccer; Women’s Swimming & Diving) led the way in the MAC and were each recognized in five sports. 
 
Akron (Women’s Cross Country; Women’s Golf; Women’s Swimming & Diving; Women’s Tennis), Ball State (Men’s Basketball; Men’s Tennis; Women’s Cross Country; Women’s Tennis) and Kent State (Men’s Cross Country; Softball; Women’s Golf; Women’s Gymnastics) were each honored in four sports. 
 
Eastern Michigan (Men’s Golf; Women’s Golf; Women’s Volleyball) and Northern Illinois (Men’s Tennis; Women’s Gymnastics; Women’s Volleyball) were recognized in three sports.  Central Michigan (Men’s Cross Country; Women’s Golf) and Toledo (Men’s Tennis; Women’s Golf) were honored in two sports. *Binghamton (Men’s Tennis), Buffalo (Women’s Soccer), *Clarion (Wrestling), *Evansville (Men’s Swimming & Diving) and *Longwood (Field Hockey) each received recognition as well.
 
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years. 
 
The APR provided a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship.  The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
