Kent State Sweeps Weekly Baseball Accolades

MAC Baseball Player of the Week
Ben Carew, Kent State, OF   
R-JR, Appleton, WI    
Carew went 8-for-14 (.571) and reached base in 10 of 16 at-bats to help Kent State take 2 of 3 from a then undefeated Winthrop. Carew had six doubles in the weekend, including four in Saturday's victory. Carew now leads the MAC with 8 doubles. Additionally, Carew drove in four and scored three times.
 
MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Luke Albright, Kent State, SP
Sophomore, Fishers, IND      
Albright got his first win of the season, tossing six shutout innings to knock Winthrop from the ranks of the unbeaten. The righty struck out six against just one walk. Albright worked out of bases loaded situations in the fifth and the sixth, getting timely ground outs and strikeouts to end the innings.

Trenton Quartermaine, Ball State, IF,
Jr., Richland, Michigan          
Quartermaine led Ball State in average, hits, bases RBIs, slugging and OBP in 4 games in Greenville, S.C. He went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs in a win over Kansas on Saturday. in 2 games vs. Kansas, he was 4-for-8 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs. The Michigan native then added a 2-for-3 Sunday performance, reaching base 4 times and driving in 2 runs against Michigan State. For the week, Quartermaine hit .467 with 3 runs and 5 RBIs and he got on base at a .529 clip.
 
Brady Huebbe, NIU, OF

Huebbe hit .529 this weekend with three doubles and five RBI as NIU went 3-1 against Chicago State and Omaha. Huebbe was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base in the Huskies’ 8-5 win over Omaha on Friday afternoon. He was 3-for-4 again on Saturday against the Mavericks with three RBI. The redshirt-junior had a hit in all four games this weekend to extend his current hitting streak to six games while reaching base safely in all 12 games this season.
 
Nate Thomas, NIU, Relief Pitcher

Thomas earned a win and a save this weekend against Omaha and Chicago State. The senior reliever threw two scoreless innings on Friday to get the save in NIU’s 8-5 win over Omaha. On Sunday, Thomas earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts as NIU defeated Chicago State 6-4. Thomas has not allowed an earned run in his last nine innings over three appearances.
 
Darryn Davis, Toledo, 2B      
So., Ann Arbor, Mich. (Skyline)        
Davis led the Rockets offensively last weekend at Alabama State, slashing .467/.600/.733. As Toledo's leadoff hitter, he reached base at least three times in three of the four games over the weekend. He is tied for the MAC lead in total bases (28) and ranks second in batting average (.432), hits (19), and RBIs (12). Dating back to last season, Davis is now riding a 17-game hitting streak, with nine of those 17 games being multi-hit efforts.
 
Wyatt Jefferson, Toledo, LHP           
Senior, Clarksville, Ohio (Clinton Massie)    
Jefferson threw six innings in his start at Alabama State on Saturday, striking out nine and allowing just one hit against the Hornets. The nine strikeouts are the most by a MAC pitcher in a game this year. Jefferson got better as the night went on, striking out the side in the fourth inning and recording two punchouts in the bottom of the fifth.
