CLEVELAND, Ohio – The No. 3 seed Kent State used a strong third quarter to advance with a 72-66 win over No. 6 seed Buffalo on Wedneday evening at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in MAC Women's Basketball Quarterfinal action. Kent State outscored Buffalo 24-15 in the third quarter to turn a 32-31 halftime deficit into a 55-47 lead.
Kent State freshman guard Katie Shumate's three pointer at the buzzer at the end of the third quarter gave the Golden Flashes its largest lead of the game at that time, a 55-47 advantage. Shumate then promptly opened the fourth quarter with a jumper to open a 57-47 lead.
Buffalo went on an 11-0 run late in the fourth quarter to turn a 68-53 deficit into a four-point deficit, trailing 68-64. However, Kent State converted four free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Kent State was led by sophomore guard Asiah Dingle with 18 points, while freshman forward Nila Blackford added 14 points.
Buffalo was led by freshman guard Dyaisha Fair with 36 points.
Kent State will face No. 7 seed Eastern Michigan on Friday afternoon on ESPN+.
