NORFOLK, Va. – Junior third baseman Dayna Denner cracked a two-run homer in the first inning and later scored the winning run to lead the Toledo softball team to a 3-2 win over Radford on the first day of the Pirate Classic in Norfolk on Friday. Junior Erin Hunt was credited with the win, striking out nine in seven innings.
The game was tied, 2-2, when Denner scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. She then was part of a crucial double play in the top of the seventh to secure the fourth win of the season for Toledo (4-2).

ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Gisele Acuna hit a two-run homer on Friday as the Central Michigan softball team topped Austin Peay, 4-3, in the 17th Annual Georgia Classic at the Bulldogs' Turner Stadium.
It was the first win of the season for CMU and it marked McCall Salmon's first win as the Chippewas' coach. Salmon replaced the legendary Margo Jonker, who retired following the 2019 season after 40 seasons at the helm of the program.
The Chippewas dropped an 8-0 decision to No. 19 Georgia in their second game on Friday.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - - Ball State softball's offense continued to roll Friday, as the Cardinals (7-5) opened play in the Hilltopper Classic hosted by Western Kentucky with a pair of run-rule victories.
BSU started with an 8-0 (5) victory over Green Bay, and after falling behind 2-0 in the nightcap, rallied for eight fourth-inning runs in a 10-2 (5) win over in-state rival Indiana State.
Overall, the Cardinals smashed 17 hits over the two games, with eight coming in the morning win over the Phoenix (3-8) and nine in the afternoon victory over the Sycamores (3-10).
Senior outfielder Haley Dominique led the way versus Green Bay, going 3-for-4 from the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored. The nightcap was dominated by junior catcher Stacy Payton who blasted a pair of home runs, including her second career grand slam.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Miami University softball team (4-3) split its games on Friday in the Frost Classic as head coach Clarisa Crowell earned her 200th win at Miami. The RedHawks fell 1-0 against UNLV in a pitchers' dual before beating the host team, Chattanooga, by a 4-3 margin in eight innings.

The Bowling Green State University softball team opened the weekend with a 7-1 win over host Tennessee State University Friday night, in day-one action at the Tiger Classic in Nashville.
The Falcons, now 3-3 on the young season, pounded out 12 hits in the win, and freshman Payton Gottshall threw a complete-game one-hitter.
Eight of the nine players in the BGSU lineup had at least one hit in the victory, and eight of the Falcons' starting nine scored and/or drove in at least one run.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Helped by a career day from Brooke Rice, the Ohio softball team (4-8) opened the Charleston Invitational Friday (Feb. 21), sweeping the day's competition. The Bobcats defeated Army (5-7), 8-4 in the opening game, before walking off against N.C. Central (0-5) later in the evening, 7-6.
