MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER AND DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
MAC Women’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Pia Schwarz, Buffalo – Sophomore, Singen, Germany (Friedrich Woehler Gymnasium)
Buffalo sophomore Pia Schwarz at No. 1 singles went a perfect 2-0 last weekend. On Friday at Big 12 foe West Virginia, Schwarz overcame a first-set loss to defeat Anastasia Bovolskaia, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9. She then swept her opponent in straight sets on Saturday at Youngstown State, defeating Tamara Teufl, 6-1, 6-4.

Yulia Kapitanova, Bowling Green – Junior, Moscow, Russia (Universal)
Bowling Green junior Yulia Kapitanova at No. 3 singles clinched the match-winning point for the Falcons against Cleveland State on Sunday. After trailing early in the first set, Kapitanova overcame the deficit to claim a 6-4 set win. That momentum rolled into the second set, taking that one 6-3 to clinch the fourth point of the day for Bowling Green.
Lindsey Zieglar, Western Michigan – Freshman, Daytona Beach, Fla. (Atlantic High School)
Western Michigan freshman Lindsey Zieglar at No. 3 singles went 2-0 in singles for the second consecutive weekend. On Saturday versus Cincinnati at No. 3 singles, she defeated Alexia Coutino after shutting her out in the third set (6-1, 2-6, 6-0). At No. 2 singles on Sunday, Lindsey helped her team earn a victory over Dayton following a straight set win over Kelly Pleiman (6-0, 6-3).

Ambre Amat, Buffalo – Freshman, Antibes, France (Lycee Jacques Audiberti)
Gabriella Akopyan, Buffalo – Junior, Yerevan, Armenia (School N1591)
Buffalo freshman Ambre Amat and junior Gabriella Akopyan at No. 3 doubles won both of their match this past weekend. On Friday, the duo won in a tie-breaker at three against West Virginia, claiming a 7-6 (3) win. They added a 6-3 win over Youngstown State on Saturday.

Marta Bettinelli, Bowling Green – Junior, Milan, Italy (Liceo Scientifico Leonardo Da Vinci)
Bowling Green senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and junior Marta Bettinelli at No. 1 doubles clinched the doubles point for Bowling Green. The duo battled for the duration of the set, trading leads with Cleveland State, before overcoming the Vikings to win the set 6-4 and give the Falcons the early advantage.
Femke Tjon-A-Joe, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Corpus Christi, Texas (Flour Bluff High School)
Jeryn Jack, Western Michigan – Junior, Tulsa, Okla. (Bishop Kelley High School)
Western Michigan sophomore Femke Tjon-A-Joe and junior Jeryn Jack at No. 1 doubles defeated Ioana Guna and Caroline Morton of Cincinnati 6-1 on Saturday. This marked the first time that they teamed up this year in doubles.
