DEKALB, Ill. – Senior Eugene German became the first player in Northern Illinois University men's basketball history to reach 2,000 career points as his 21 helped lead the Huskies to their fourth consecutive victory, 70-55, over Miami on Saturday afternoon at the NIU Convocation Center. 

German, who entered the contest 17 points behind T.J. Lux (1995-2000; 1,996 points) for the school scoring record, broke the mark with a driving layup through contact with 6:39 left to play, giving the Huskies an 18-point lead. The Gary, Ind., native's 21 points in the contest gives him exactly 2,000 in his career, he also finished with a season-high tying six assists. 

Sophomore Darius Beane added 13 points and senior Lacey James recorded his ninth career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Huskies led by three at the half before using a big run to build a lead as large as 19 while racing away from the RedHawks. 

NIU held Miami to just 29 percent (9-of-31) shooting in the first half and 34.5 percent (20-of-58) for the game, including 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from three. 

The Huskies will return to action on Tuesday night, February 4, at Toledo. NIU will return home to DeKalb on Friday, February 7, when the Huskies host Kent State at 6 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Kevin McKay had 19 points and 12 rebounds as Central Michigan beat Western Michigan 85-78 on Saturday. Deschon Winston added 18 points for the Chippewas, while Rob Montgomery chipped in 15.

McKay hit 9 of 12 shots.

Dallas Morgan had 11 points for Central Michigan (12-8, 5-2 Mid-American Conference).

Michael Flowers had 23 points for the Broncos (9-12, 2-6). William Boyer-Richard added 15 points. B. Artis White had 14 points.

Brandon Johnson, whose 15 points per game entering the matchup ranked second on the Broncos, shot only 17 percent for the game (1 of 6).

Central Michigan plays Bowling Green at home on Tuesday. Western Michigan takes on Miami on the road on Tuesday.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Tahjai Teague scored 24 points as Ball State led from start-to-finish, topping Ohio 65-54 on Saturday.

Teague hit 10 of 13 shots and added eight rebounds with a steal and a blocked shot. Jarron Coleman had 10 points and nine rebounds for Ball State (12-9, 5-3 Mid-American Conference), which earned its fifth straight home victory. Kyle Mallers also added 10 points.

Ben Vander Plas had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Bobcats (10-12, 2-7), whose losing streak reached four games. Lunden McDay added 11 points.

Ball State matches up against Kent State on the road on Tuesday. Ohio plays Miami at home next Saturday.

Eastern Michigan 61, Toledo 57

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Yeikson Montero had a season-high 26 points as Eastern Michigan snapped its seven-game losing streak, narrowly beating Toledo 61-57 on Saturday for its first conference win this season.

Montero made 9 of 12 shots.

Boubacar Toure had 12 points and 16 rebounds for Eastern Michigan (11-10, 1-7 Mid-American Conference). Ty Groce added 10 points.

A free throw by Groce extended Eastern Michigan's lead to 61-54 with just under a minute to go with a 3-pointer by Marreon Jackson providing Toledo's final points with 50 seconds left.

Dylan Alderson had 14 points for the Rockets (11-11, 3-6). Jackson added 14 points. Keshaun Saunders had 12 points.

Eastern Michigan plays Buffalo at home on Tuesday. Toledo matches up against Northern Illinois at home on Tuesday.
