BUFFALO, NY – The national honors keep rolling in for University at Buffalo running back Jaret Patterson. On Tuesday, he was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week. This comes on the heels of being named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. It marks the first time in program history a UB player has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week.
Patterson did in an afternoon what most backs are fortunate to do in a month of action. In the greatest individual performance in school history, the big-play Bull erupted for 409 rushing yards and an NCAA record-tying eight touchdowns earning himself Maxwell Award Player of the Week honors. Patterson joined Texas' Ricky Williams as the only players to rush for 300 yards in back-to-back games, as Buffalo blasted Kent State in a battle of unbeatens, 70-41.
Through four games, Patterson has rushed for 920 yards. His 230 yards per game average leads the nation and his 920 rushing yards are fifth in the country. His 16 rushing touchdowns are one shy of the national lead while playing half the games as the leaders.
Each week during the 2020 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.
