AKRON, Ohio -- Gabe Grant buried a go-ahead 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining then blocked a 3-point try as time was running out, lifting Buffalo to a 77-74 victory over Akron on Tuesday night.

The Bulls led 74-67 after Josh Mballa made two free throws with 1:46 to go but did not score again until Grant's 3-pointer from the left side after Akron's zone defense had collapsed to the other side of the basket. Akron's Loren Cristian Jackson took the inbounds pass and drove up the left sideline. Grant picked him up in the frontcourt and deflected Jackson's running 3-pointer from about 22 feet, leaving the shot several feet shy of the basket. Buffalo collected the rebound as time ran out.

Antwain Johnson scored 18 points and Mballa had 13 points and 17 rebounds for Buffalo (14-7, 5-3 Mid-American Conference) Jayvon Graves scored 13 points, Davonta Jordan 11 and Jeenathan Williams 10 for the Bulls. Grant had five points, one rebound and two huge plays.

Jackson had 28 points and six assists for the Zips (16-5, 6-2). He made five 3-pointers and all 11 of his free-throw attempts. Xeyrius Williams added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Cheese had 12 points.

Buffalo takes on Bowling Green at home on Friday. Akron plays at Kent State on Friday.

 
Kent State 83, Toledo 70
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Troy Simons scored 21 points with four assists and four steals and Kent State rallied from 21 points down to beat Toledo 83-70 on Tuesday night for a season sweep of the Rockets.

Antonio Williams scored 21 points with four assists and four steals for the Golden Flashes (15-6, 5-3 Mid-American Conference), who ended the first half with a 16-0 run but trailed 35-32 at halftime.

Philip Whittington's go-ahead layup put Kent State up 50-46 with 12:16 left to play and sparked a 14-3 run capped by Antonio Williams' layup for a 58-49 lead and the Golden Flashes held on.

Danny Pippen grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 16 points, C.J. Williamson had nine points and Whittington had six.

Luke Knapke scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and three assists and Willie Jackson scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Rockets (11-10, 3-5). Marreon Jackson had 25 points and seven assists.

The Golden Flashes improve to 2-0 against the Rockets this season. Kent State defeated Toledo 84-77 on Jan. 7. Kent State takes on Akron at home on Friday. Toledo matches up against Eastern Michigan on the road on Saturday.


Bowling Green 67, Ball State 61

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Trey Diggs hit 5 of 8 3-pointers and scored a career-high 25 points and Bowling Green beat Ball State 67-61 on Tuesday night to win its seventh straight, it's longest Mid-American Conference win streak in 40 years.

Justin Turner scored 20 points and Daeqwon Plowden added seven and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Falcons (16-5, 7-1), who seized control with a 12-0 second-half run and held on. Dylan Frye made six assists.

Tahjai Teague scored 18 points with 11 rebounds and Ishmael El-Amin added 17 points for the Cardinals (11-9, 4-3). Jarron Coleman had 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Bowling Green faces Buffalo on the road on Friday. Ball State matches up against Ohio at home on Saturday.



Northern Illinois 61, Ohio 59

DEKALB, Ill. -- Eugene German scored 18 points, Noah McCarty added a career-high 16, including the game-winning shot, and Northern Illinois beat Ohio 61-59 on Tuesday night to win its third straight.

Ohio led 57-56 with 2:20 left to play on a layup by Ben Vander Plas before McCarty hit a go-ahead 3-pointer. Vander Plas tied it at 59 with two free throws, then McCarty hit a jumper with 18 seconds left for the final score. The Bobcats' Ben Roderick missed a shot at the buzzer.

Tyler Cochran got his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies (12-9, 5-3 Mid-American Conference), who trailed 32-27 at halftime.

Vander Plas scored 18 points with eight rebounds and two assists for Ohio (10-11, 2-6), which scored a season-low 27 second-half points in losing its third straight. Lunden McDay scored 13 points and Jason Preston added 10, grabbed seven rebounds and made seven assists.

Northern Illinois plays Miami at home on Saturday. Ohio faces Ball St. on the road on Saturday.
