MAC Announces Men's Tennis Singles Player and Doubles Team of the Week


MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER AND DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Kennosuke Nouchi, Western Michigan – Senior, Kashima, Japan (Kashima Gakuen)
Western Michigan senior Kennosuke Nouchi went 3-0 over the weekend for the Broncos at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. He defeated Finley Hall from Drake in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) and Oliver Okonkwo of Big Ten opponent Iowa in a three-set comeback (6-7, 7-5, 6-3), with both wins coming at No. 3 singles. Nouchi then helped the Broncos earn a 4-3 victory over Gonzaga on Sunday in a neutral site match, beating Matthew Hollingworth in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 6-1). He has started the 2020 campaign with a perfect 5-0 singles record.

Chris Adams, Ball State – Junior, Port Huron, Mich. (Port Huron Northern High School)
Ball State junior Chris Adams at No. 2 singles helped the Cardinals to their fourth-straight victory over the Xavier Musketeers Saturday night at Eastern Hills Tennis Club. Adams took down Srdan Pejic at the No. 2 position 6-3 in the first set and then fought hard in the second to win the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3). Adams also helped the Cardinals take the early lead over the Musketeers by winning at the top court in doubles.
 
Bor Schweiger Muzar, Northern Illinois – Senior, Crnomelj, Slovenia (Gimnm)
Northern Illinois senior Bor Schweiger Muzar at No. 1 singles outlasted Drake’s Evan Fragistas in three sets to give the Huskies a 4-3 victory in the season opener against the Bulldogs. After dropping the opening set, 3-6, Muzar came from behind to win the next two, 7-5, 6-2, to win his match and clinch the dual for the Huskies.
 
Luis Kleinschnitz, Toledo – Freshman, Eichenau, Germany (Fachhochschule Furstenfeldbruck)
Toledo freshman Luis Kleinschnitz at No. 4 and No. 5 singles went 2-0 over the weekend, tallying singles victories against Kentucky and Cleveland State. On Thursday, Kleinschnitz posted the Rockets' sole point against Kentucky, defeating Jonathan Sorbo in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) on the No. 4 court. He posted another three-set victory on Saturday during the Rockets' clash with Cleveland State, defeating Kade Mindry 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 from the No. 5 court. 
 
 
MAC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Bor Schweiger Muzar, Northern Illinois – Senior, Crnomelj, Slovenia (Gimnm)
David Pata, Northern Illinois – Sophomore, Bucharest, Romania (Emil Racovita)

 
Northern Illinois senior Bor Schweiger Muzar and sophomore David Pata at No. 1 doubles scored a 6-3 victory over Reid Jarvis and David Nyman of Drake in the first match of the season for the Huskies. Muzar and Pata’s victory helped NIU claim the doubles point and ultimately a 4-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Ball State junior Chris Adams and freshman Vince Orlando at No. 1 doubles, Chris Adams alongside doubles partner Vince Orlando, paired up for a 6-4 defeat in doubles action against Xavier’s duo of Brett Winters and Srdan Pejic. Adams and Orlando helped Ball State take an early 1-0 lead over the Musketeers Saturday night after the Cardinals won the opening point. It also marked the fourth-straight season the Cardinals had defeated Xavier.
 
Peter Kuszynski, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Markham, Ontario (St. Brother Andre Catholic High School)
Jack Randall, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Lockport, Ill. (Lockport Township High School)

 
Western Michigan sophomore’s Peter Kuszynski and Jack Randall at No. 2 doubles went 2-1 as a team over the weekend, which included a 7-6 win over Kyle Everly and Theo McDonald on Sunday to secure the doubles point in a 4-3 victory over Gonzaga. They also defeated Reid Jarvis and David Nyman from Drake on Friday, with both wins coming at the No. 2 doubles position. The only loss for Peter and Jack came in a closely contested 5-7 match against a pair from Big Ten opponent Iowa.
