KENT, Ohio -- Eugene German scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Northern Illinois held off Kent State 76-69 on Tuesday night, handing the Golden Flashes their first home loss of the season.
Lacey James scored 16 points and made two steals and Darius Beane added 14 points with eight boards for the Huskies (10-9, 3-3 Mid-American Conference), who outrebounded the Golden Flashes 45-28. Trendon Hankerson scored nine points and Tyler Cochran had six rebounds.
Danny Pippen hit 3 of 8 3-pointers and scored 18 points and had nine rebounds and two blocks for Kent State (13-6, 3-3), which has lost three straight. C.J. Williamson scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots and Antonio Williams added 13 points with three assists.
Senior Philip Whittington scored eight points for Kent State, including his 1,000th career point, and Anthony Roberts had nine points.
Northern Illinois plays Western Michigan at home on Saturday. Kent State faces Buffalo on the road on Friday.
Toledo 83, Ohio 74

ATHENS, Ohio -- Marreon Jackson scored 29 points and Willie Jackson snared 14 rebounds to lead Toledo to an 83-74 win over Ohio on Tuesday.
Luke Knapke scored 22 points, Dylan Anderson 11 and Keshaun Anderson 10 off the bench for the Rockets (10-8, 2/3 Mid-American Conference).
Jordan Dartis provided Ohio with its only lead of the game with a 3-pointer a minute-and-a-half in before a 16-6 run by Toledo made it 18-9. Jason Preston made back-to-back layups for Ohio (10-8, 2-3) to tie at 23 with 6:41 before halftime. The Rockets used a 12-5 burst to close the half and they led by double digits for most of the second half.
Preston led the Bobcats with a career-tying 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Ben Roderick scored 11 and Sylvester Ogbonda collected 11 rebounds.
Bowling Green 62, Eastern Michigan 59

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Justin Turner grabbed seven rebounds and scored 25 points, including a late go-ahead layup, and Bowling Green beat Eastern Michigan 62-59 on Tuesday night for its fifth straight win.
It's the first time the Falcons (14-5, 5-1) have won at least five of their first six Mid-American Conference games in back-to-back seasons and it's their seventh 14-5 start since reaching the NCAA Tournament in 1968.
Turner's go-ahead layup with 2:40 left to play put the Falcons up 56-55, Daeqwon Plowden added a jumper and Turner's layup and two free throws made it 62-57 with 18 seconds left. The Eagles missed two shots before Boubacar Toure made a dunk at the buzzer for the final score.
Plowden scored 17 points with nine rebounds and the Falcons shot 8 of 28 from beyond the arc (29%). Tayler Mattos added three blocks.
Toure had 17 points and 13 rebounds and three blocks for the Eagles (10-9, 0-6), who have lost six straight conference matchups. Noah Morgan added 16 points.
Bowling Green matches up against Toledo on the road on Saturday. Eastern Michigan faces Miami on the road on Saturday.
Buffalo 90, Western Michigan 79

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jayvon Graves scored 23 points and Antwain Johnson scored 21 and Buffalo pulled away in the second half to beat Western Michigan 90-79 on Tuesday.
Jared Printy's 3-pointer pulled Western Michigan into a 64-all tie with 9:03 remaining. Buffalo (13-6, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) then used a 13-3 spurt over the next four-plus minutes to create safe distance down the stretch.
The score was knotted at 43 at intermission.
Josh Mballa scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Bulls which distributed 19 assists, grabbed seven steals and committed just six turnovers. Buffalo now has won a season-high four straight.
Brandon Johnson and Titus Wright each scored 18 points and combine to shoot 12 of 16 for Western Michigan (9-10, 2-4). Michael Flowers scored 12 and B. Artis White 10. The Broncos were 26 of 52 shooting and made eight 3s but committed 16 turnovers.
Akron 81, Miami 60

OXFORD, Ohio -- Loren Cristian Jackson made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points, Xeyrius Willams made five 3s, scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Akron hit 14 of 24 3-pointers in beating Miami 81-60 on Tuesday night.
Tyler Cheese scored 18 points and made five assists for the Zips (15-4, 5-1 Mid-American Conference), who shot 53% from the field in its fourth consecutive road win. Channel Banks made all four of his 3s and scored 12 points.
Dae Dae Grant had 16 points for the RedHawks (8-11, 1-5) and Elijah McNamara added 11.
Nike Sibande, who led the RedHawks in scoring entering the contest with 15 points per game, had only six points on 2-of-10 shooting.
Akron takes on Ohio on the road on Saturday. Miami (Ohio) plays Eastern Michigan at home on Saturday.
