AKRON
Akron women's basketball is back on the road as the Zips close out their two-game road swing in northwest Ohio. UA heads to the glass city of Toledo, Ohio to take on MAC West opponent, the Toledo Rockets, on Wednesday, January 15, at 7 p.m. Senior Shaunay Edmonds the Zips point guard is 27 points away from becoming the 16th player in Akron women's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark.
BALL STATE
Oshlynn Brown led the Cardinals last week averaging a double-double performance. She scored 20.0 points per contest while pulling down 11.0 rebounds per game. Brown also registered a career best 29 points last Wednesday in an overtime win at Bowling Green. The last time the Cardinals opened Mid-American Conference action with a 3-0 ledger was in 2016-17 when BSU opened league action with wins over Toledo, Kent State and Western Michigan.
BOWLING GREEN
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team hits the road for the next two games, beginning with a midweek matchup in Western New York. The Falcons are coming off of a second-straight narrow loss at the Stroh Center. After falling to Ball State in overtime last Wednesday (Jan. 8), BGSU dropped a 76-73 decision against Akron on Saturday (Jan. 11). All five BGSU starters scored in double digits against the Zips on Saturday. The Falcons had not seen all five starters hit double digits in over six years, but BGSU has now turned the trick twice in an eight-game span.
BUFFALO
The University at Buffalo women's basketball team will host Bowling Green in the middle game of a three-game homestand on Wednesday at Alumni Arena. Dyaisha Fair was named to the Her Hoop Stats Mid-Major Player of the Year Mid-Season Watch List, recognizing the nation's best mid-major player in women's college basketball.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan and Ball State will square off on Wednesday (7 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena. Both are 3-0 in league play and share the top spot in the West Division. CMU junior guard Micaela Kelly continues to rank second in the nation in scoring at 24.4 points per game, leading an offense that ranks second in the MAC and 34th nationally at 75.2 points per game.
EASTERN MICHIGAN
After a two-game road swing, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns home for a Mid-American Conference showdown with Miami University, Wednesday, Jan. 15. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. Eastern (7-7; 2-1 MAC) looks to get back in the win column after suffering its first conference loss at Ball State, Jan. 11. Prior to the setback, EMU had won five straight games. Redshirt junior guard Areanna Combs has been outstanding for the Eagles in the eight games she has played this season. The Oklahoma City native has scored in double-figures in each contest, dropping a career-best 32 points against BGSU, Jan. 4. In all, Combs is averaging a team-best 19.6 points per game.
KENT STATE
Kent State team will look for back-to-back wins on Wednesday when it takes on Northern Illinois in the fourth consecutive matchup with a West Division to begin Mid-American Conference play. Tip inside of the Convocation Center. The Golden Flashes (8-6, 1-2 MAC) built a 16-point halftime lead to take down Western Michigan, 75-63, for their first conference win on Saturday. Katie Shumate shot 4-for-4 from behind the three-point line and scored 17 of her career-high 20 points during the contest's opening 20 minutes.
MIAMI
Miami (8-7, 1-2 MAC) is on the road again as they face Eastern Michigan (7-7, 2-1 MAC) on Wednesday. The RedHawks fell in a close match at Central Michigan by a 76-70 margin after being tied early in the fourth quarter and leading much of the first half. Savannah Kluesner led the Miami squad with 23 points and 10 rebounds to record her eighth double-double of the season.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team wraps up a brief two-game homestand Wednesday night when the Kent State Golden Flashes come to the NIU Convocation Center for a 6 p.m. tip-off. NIU (4-10, 0-3 MAC) was within three points of Toledo at halftime Saturday at the Convocation Center, but the Huskies were 2-for-11 from the field in the third quarter and shot just 25 percent in the second half in a 63-51 loss to the Rockets. Freshman Grace Hunter (Monroeville, Ind./Bellmont) led NIU with 11 points and three assists, going 3-for-5 from the three-point line.
OHIO
The Ohio women's basketball team (9-5, 2-1 MAC) continues its road trip at Western Michigan (9-5, 2-1 MAC) on Wednesday inside Read Fieldhouse/University Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Cece Hooks is No. 13 in the country and first in the MAC in steals per game at 3.43. Erica Johnson is No. 67 in the country and first in the MAC in assists per game at 4.7. Johnson has had five or more assists in eight contests with her high of 11 against American, where she had a triple-double.
TOLEDO
Toledo (7-7, 2-1 MAC) will look to stretch its winning streak to three games when it hosts Mid-American Conference East Division foe Akron (8-6, 1-2 MAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The Rockets have won four of their last five games, including an impressive 63-51 road triumph at Northern Illinois on Saturday. Junior Nakiah Black paced Toledo with a game-high 16 points against the Huskies (4-10, 0-3 MAC), followed by junior Tanaya Beacham and freshman Quinesha Lockett with 11 and 10, respectively.
WESTERN MICHIGAN
The Western Michigan women's basketball team is back in University Arena after back-to-back MAC road games to take on preseason favorite Ohio University on Wednesday, January 15. Last time out, four of five Bronco starters had double-digit performances on the day, with redshirt senior Breanna Mobley leading the pack with 16 points and 13 rebounds, good for her 11th double-double of the season. She tied for her season high with four blocks and added an assist, playing in nearly all 40 minutes of the contest.
