MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan men's basketball coach Keno Davis has signed a contract extension that will keep him in charge of the program at least until 2023-24.
"Keno continues to run a first-class program, one that is successful on the court, in the classroom and helping his student-athletes develop as outstanding young men," Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "His commitment to doing things the right way has been paramount to our success. I am excited for the up-coming season and for the continued success of our program."
Davis is entering his eighth year in charge of the program, and coming off a 23-12 finish, tying for the program's second-highest single-season win total.
It marked the fifth-consecutive season in which CMU finished .500 or better, the first time the program has accomplished such a feat since the early 1970s. It was also CMU's second-consecutive 20-win season and its third in the seven years that Davis has been at the helm. It marked the first time the program has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons since the mid 1960s.
The Chippewas have earned a postseason bid in four of the past five years.
"I couldn't have hoped for more when my family and I made the move into the Mt Pleasant community seven years ago," Davis said. "I'd like to thank the CMU administration, Dave Heeke for hiring me and Michael Alford for providing me an opportunity to continue to guide this basketball program.
"I'd also like to thank the assistant coaches, managers, and student-athletes for their tireless hard work. Thanks most of all to the great Chippewa fans that support us from near and far. Fire Up Chips!"
In Davis' seven years at CMU, 17 times has a Chippewa landed on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference squad and three of his players have been named a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete. Twelve times has a Chippewa earned All-MAC recognition during Davis' tenure.
