LEXINGTON, Ky. – A milestone victory on a milestone goal.
Freshman Lauren DeBeau scored on a corner kick with just 2 seconds remaining in overtime on Sunday as the Central Michigan soccer team knocked off Kentucky, 2-1, in the Chippewas' final nonconference game of the season.
The win kept CMU unbeaten at 3-0-2.
It was also a happy homecoming for first-year CMU coach Jeremy Groves, who played at and later served as an assistant coach at Kentucky. It was the Chippewas' first extra-time win of the season; they are 1-0-2 in such contests.
"This win is humongous for us," Groves said. "It's humongous for our confidence and our recruiting.
"We told the girls all week that this is going to put us on the map. It's such a big win for our program. Going into next week, with the start of conference play, I said all along this is what we want to build. We want to build the program where we're the big dogs and (opponents know) we're coming into town.
"I'm so proud of the girls today. Their effort was unreal. Full credit to our team. They were the ones who went out there and executed, and they did what we asked them to do."

EUGENE, OR – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team took Oregon to overtime on the road in rainy conditions on Sunday night but a late goal by the hosts at the end of the first extra period gave the Ducks a 2-1 win. With the loss the Bulls fall to 3-3-1 on the year while the Ducks improve to 4-1-3 overall.

The Ducks would threaten late in the first half as Zoe Hasenauer made a run up field but Emily Kelly came out of net and made a great save. Less than two minutes later it was Emma Eddy on the breakaway but Kelly stayed aggressive and made another gutsy save to preserve the one goal lead at the half.

In the first overtime, Eddy would break through the UB defense and drill one into the back of the net for the game-winner in the 89th minute.

"We just didn't work hard enough today," said NIU head coach Julie Colhoff. "We need to stay more disciplined to not allow our opponents to get forward. Our game plan was to work and stay disciplined and we didn't do either of those things today."
NIU (2-4-1) had an early chance as senior Jennie Nailor (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) fired a shot wide in the third minute of play.

Alina Stahl scored a pair of goals, one early and one late, as host West Virginia University held off the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, 2-0, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22). The match, the Falcons' final non-conference contest of the 2019 campaign, was held at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Stahl opened the scoring just two minutes into the match for the Mountaineers, now 5-3-1 on the year. But, after weathering the storm in the early going, BG got stronger as the game wore on. The Falcons (2-4-2) allowed four WVU shots, including three on goal, in the first 10 minutes, then gave up only four total shot attempts over the next 72-plus minutes.
BG possessed the ball in the WVU end of the field for much of the second half, but could not find the equalizer. Then, Stahl gave the hosts some breathing room, scoring her second goal of the day with just over seven minutes remaining.
