EVANSTON, ILL. - The Ball State field hockey team (2-5) dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 13 Northwestern (6-2) Monday night at Lakeside Field. The game against the Wildcats marked the second nationally ranked team the Cardinals have faced this season and the third member of the Big Ten Conference.
 
Despite the loss, the Cardinals defense continues to get stronger, holding Northwestern scoreless for the first 15 minutes of action. For the game, Ball State became only the third team that has held the Wildcats to only three scores this season. 
 
The Cardinals defense was led by goalkeeper junior Grace Chavez with eight saves and junior Audrey Tabor with one.
 
The Ball State field hockey team continues its three-game road swing when it opens Mid-American Conference action Friday against Miami. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
