ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team played tough with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) No. 24-ranked University of Michigan Sunday, Sept. 15, but were unable to keep pace with the Wolverines, falling 22-25, 18-25, 19-25, to finish the Michigan Classic.

EMU (3-5) finished the match with eight blocks to U-M's (6-2) four, but the Wolverines held the advantage in attack percentage (.283 to .157), total assists (48 to 29), and total digs (51 to 39) on the evening.

Eastern's well-balanced offensive attack was led by its pin hitters, as junior Franki Strefling (Niles, Mich.-Buchanan) and freshman Alayna Jansky(Mukwonago, Wis.-Mukwonago) each finished the match with seven kills. Redshirt senior Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary Catholic Central) registered six kills and had two solo blocks, while redshirt freshman Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ont.-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic) had a career day, registering six kills and four total blocks, both personal bests. Senior Ariel Hamby (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) set a new season-high with six total blocks, registering one solo and five block-assists.

The Green and White return to action Tuesday, Sept. 17 as they welcome Purdue Fort Wayne to the Convocation Center for a 6 p.m. match. Eastern then travels to West Lafayette, Ind. to take on Murray State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and No. 23 Purdue as part of the Purdue Invitational.
