DAVIS, Calif. - In a hot Friday night match in California, the Toledo women's soccer team found itself on the wrong side of scoreboard as the Rockets (2-4-0) fell 3-1 to UC Davis (4-2-0). The Rockets would score their only goal of the match in the 83rd minute when freshman Stephanie Currie was able to send a long cross into the box and sophomore Tatiana Woodworth was able to finish it into the back of the net.

The Rockets were playing catch-up with Ags from the start, as UC Davis got on the board in the sixth minute of the game and never let up. The Ags added a second goal 20 minutes later when Monet Kunz collected a cross from Bryanna Duckett and snuck it past junior Madison Perrin to put UC Davis up 2-0. The Rockets were able to hold their opponents to seven shots for the remainder of the half and keep the score at 2-0 going into the break.

Coming out of the break, the Ags added their third marker in the 56th minute when the Rockets had a dangerous turnover in their defensive third and Casey Palmer was able to send one to the back of the net from just outside the 18.

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio soccer team (5-1-0) dropped its first game of the season on Friday (Sept. 13) in heartbreaking fashion, falling to Robert Morris (2-3-1), 1-0, in double overtime.

"We knew we were creating a lot of chances," head coach Aaron Rodgers said. "We figured that we would be able to keep creating them as we did in the first extra time period. We were creating chances, they just didn't go in. Robert Morris did a great job and executed their game plan perfectly. We were a little unsure of what we wanted to do. We knew what we were trying to do, but we had trouble executing that. We had 27 shots, but they had one goal and they made two, three or four really good saves. Game-saving saves."

The Bobcats had the first solid attempts of the game in the opening minute, with freshman Heather McGuire (Hamilton, Ohio) just missing high. A minute later, McGuire recorded her second attempt of the game, this one missing just wide of the goal.

After about 15 minutes of little action, Robert Morris recorded their first shot of the game in the 18th minute, however the Bobcats responded with back-to-back attempts from senior Courtney Daugerdas (Libertyville, Ill.) and sophomore Abby Townsend (Powell, Ohio) in the 19th minute.

Ohio continued to dominate the offense with freshman Olivia Page (Springboro, Ohio) recording an attempt in the 26th minute, on a ball that would go high. Abby Townsend followed that up moments later with a ball in the 31st minute that forced the RMU keeper to make a save.

Ohio would close out the first half in control, with senior Victoria Breeden (Hudson, Ohio), sophomore Taylor Dickerson (Cincinnati,Ohio) and back-to-back attempts from sophomore Lindsey Townsend (New Albany, Ohio), one of which forced the RMU keeper to make another save, keeping the game scoreless going into the half.

At the half, Ohio outshot Robert Morris, 11-1 and had six corner kicks compared to RMU's two.

Robert Morris recorded the first attempt in the second half, a ball that would go wide of the net in the 49th minute. Abby Townsend came back and fired a shot at the net in the 60th minute, forcing the RMU keeper to make another save. After another shot by junior Jenni Santacaterina (Geneva, Ill) was saved by the RMU keeper, freshman Tristan Whalen (LaGrange, Ky.) and junior Sarina Dirrig (Powell, Ohio) both recorded attempts, however the RMU keeper would make another save, keeping the game at 0-0.

Ohio and RMU would trade a number of attempts over the remaining 20 minutes of the game. With 30 seconds left, junior Paige Knorr (Cincinnati, Ohio) appeared to score, however, the play would be called offsides, sending the game to overtime with it tied at 0-0.

Ohio would control the first overtime, with a shot by sophomore Morgan Collica (Aurora, Ohio) getting the period going in the 91st minute. Senior Sydney Leckie (Medina, Ohio) fired off three-straight shots on goal, all of which would be saved by the RMU keeper, sending the game into the second overtime with the game tied at 0-0.

The second overtime saw Ohio control early, with attempts from senior Alivia Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) and freshman Maddie Young (Cincinnati, Ohio), however, RMU would score in the 106th minute on a goal from Kayla Veloso-Lime, giving RMU the 1-0 victory.

Overall, the Bobcats outshot RMU, 27-5, with 12 corner kicks compared to RMU's 4.

Individually, Abby Townsend recorded five shots with four on goal, McGuire recorded three shots, while Leckie had three shots with three on goal. In total, 16 different Bobcats recorded shots for Ohio.

In net, junior Sydney Malham (Nashville, Tenn.) allowed one goal and made one save in 106 minutes.

Up next, the Bobcats head to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 15. First touch is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on BTN+.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A stellar performance by Izzie Vaccari in goal kept the Miami soccer team close throughout its contest at Ohio State, but MU was unable to mount a comeback bid in a 1-0 setback on Friday night.

"I thought as a group we executed our game plan," head coach Courtney Sirmans said. "We shifted really well and stayed disciplined defensively. I wish we would've connected a few more passes when we won the ball in transition, but we panicked too quickly. Still, I couldn't be prouder of their buy in to what we are doing as a team this year."

Ohio State set up its possession game pretty much at the outset and kept play in the attacking end for the majority of the first half. The Buckeyes would fire the first 10 shots of the evening as they kept Izzie Vaccari busy throughout the opening 45 minutes. For her part, Vaccari made three stops and MU's defense was able to stymy numerous OSU possessions as it tried to crack into the 18-yard box.

The times the RedHawks took the ball in transition, they found themselves narrowly missing on a key penetrating feed. With time winding down in the half, Lyda Bogdanovitch nearly put Miami on the board with its first shot as her 30-yard blast appeared labeled for the top of the net, but Bailey Kolinski got her fingers on the ball to tip it off the bottom of the crossbar. The ball went straight down and officials took another look at the replay, but determined the ball did not cross the goal line and the contest remained scoreless.

Following the close call, OSU cracked the scoreboard less than a minute later as Kayla Fischer fired a shot from the left wing that found the far post in the 39th minute to stake the Buckeyes to a 1-0 lead at halftime.

While Miami used stellar goalkeeping from Vaccari to keep the score close throughout, in particular with a point blank stop early in the second half, it found itself unable to mount sustained pressure in the second half. The Red and White got a corner kick with about 10 minutes to go, but otherwise did not get into the attacking box with any possession as they did not register a shot in the final 45.

Ohio State outshot Miami by a 26-1 count with a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Vaccari finished the night with eight saves in goal.

Miami wraps up its non-conference slate on Sept. 20 when it hosts Xavier and honors former head coach Bobby Kramig. A special pre-game ceremony will precede the 4 p.m. kickoff.

Florida Atlantic 1, Ball State 0
Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Ball State University soccer team saw its offense go cold as the Cardinals failed to get off a shot in their first loss of 2019 at Florida Atlantic University Friday night.

With the loss, Ball State fell to 5-1-0 on the year while Florida Atlantic improved to 5-2-0. The Cardinals also saw their five-game winning streak and 16-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

"We played a really strong FAU team tonight," said Ball State head coach Josh Rife. "We conceded the goal early and it's always difficult to chase a game for that long. I'm proud of how we responded and grew into the game. Obviously we are disappointed in the result, but now our focus is on recovering and preparing for Florida Gulf Coast."

It was the Owls that started fast as Mary O'Hara scored her fifth goal of the year for FAU in just the sixth minute of the match. That was one of 18 shots the Owls registered on the night.

Despite the loss, BSU goalkeeper Tristin Stuteville recorded nine saves for the match. The Owls produced 11 corner kicks while Ball State could only manage one.

The Cardinals will look to regroup quickly as they stay in the Sunshine State for a Sunday afternoon matchup at Florida Gulf Coast. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. ET.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team (1-3-2) tied with Youngstown State University (2-4-1), 0-0, in double overtime Sept. 13 at Farmers National Bank Field.

Redshirt junior Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) recorded her third career shutout and tied her career-high minutes at 110. The scoreless draw was the first for the Eagles since Oct. 16, 2016, against Kent State.

The Penguins controlled the game for the first 10 minutes, keeping the ball in their attacking half and getting two shots off. Eastern Michigan then went on the offensive, taking over possession and firing off 14 shots in the final 35 minutes of the first half.

Freshman Amanda Cripps (Bradford, Ontario-Trinity Catholic) entered the match in the 29th minute and made her presence known. In the final 16 minutes of the first half, Cripps took six shots from inside the box. However, her attempts were either saved or blocked by Youngstown State.

After the break, the Eagles continued to control the game. Redshirt junior Nicole Remedios (Ajax, Ontario-Archbishop Dennis O'Connor) tried to get things started early, firing off a shot in the 51st minute from 25 yards out, but her shot went over the crossbar.

73 minutes in, Eastern earned back-to-back corner kicks. Despite finding an Eagle in the box both times, the Penguins were able to knock the ball away before EMU could convert.

The Eagles made one more scoring push in the final two minutes when redshirt senior Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name) shot a laser towards the top of the goal, but the YSU goalkeeper managed to get a hand on it and make the save.

Eastern led Youngstown State 32-to-12 in shots and edged the Penguins eight-to-two in corners.

Eastern Michigan closes out its non-conference road slate Sunday, Sept. 15 when it visits the University of Dayton at 1 p.m.
