Female Scholar Athlete of the Week
Akron's Mackenzie Andrews, Cross Country (Redshirt Senior, 4.000/masters - Physical Education)
Senior Mackenzie Andrews finished first in the women's 5K race at the Tommy Evans Invitational in a career-best time of 17:11.2, a more than 50-second victory over her second-place competitor, to lead Akron to the women's title with 45 points. An All-American long distance runner for the Zips, Andrews earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology. She is pursuing a master’s degree in physical education.
Male Scholar Athlete of the Week
Ball State's Drew Plitt, Football - Quarterback (Redshirt Junior, 3.605, Accounting)
Drew Plitt tied the Ball State record with six touchdown passes, and the Cardinals rolled up nearly 600 yards of offense in a 57-29 victory over Fordham on the newly minted Gainbridge Field at Scheumann Stadium last Saturday. Plitt's 439 passing yards were 30 fewer than his head coach Mike Neu's school record in the famous 1993 Homecoming comeback against Toledo. But the redshirt junior signal caller didn't get a chance at that one. His sixth touchdown pass of the day, matching Keith Wenning's mark, was his final throw before John Paddock took the snaps on BSU's final possessions. Plitt’s longest pass of the day, a 50-yard touchdown strike to Justin Hall to open the scoring for the Cardinals. Plitt also found Antwan Davis for a 40-yard touchdown strike to give the Cardinals a 28-14 lead heading into the half.
